View Full Version : New Type of Pain - can anyone relate?

Hello all,

I woke up this morning with an odd pain/sensation that I've never experienced before. First let me say that my IC is very much under control. I am 25 years old and have mostly pain-free days, with some urethral pain here and there depending on what I eat or drink. I haven't had a bad flare in almost a year!

So this morning I woke up with a weird pinching/poking feeling that seems to be in/around my clitoris. It's like someone is poking me there with a needle or something - or like something is stuck in there (weird, I know - sorry if I'm sharing too much). I notice it more when I get up and walk around, and sometimes little pains shoot up the front of my pelvis towards the top of my pubic hair line - but not higher. It doesn't hurt any more or less if I touch the area - it's not raw or sore or anything. It's more inside. It's just this stabbing/pinching pain that keeps coming and going - I notice it every few minutes.

Does anyone know what this is? I'm not even sure it's IC related because of where it is hurting ... Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Cheers,

Mel

One thing I am sure of is the rule: any time you have a new symptom call your doctor...and this one I think see a doctor. I realize this is an embarrissing thing to talk about but it may not be IC and you don't want to risk it.

Next, there is info here on the site of the "un talked about IC symptom" of Clitoris pain.

Sure hope you feel better soon. :grouphug:

I agree with Katrina even if its embrasseing you need to call your doctor to let them know what is going on. It may be a bad UTI brewing that needs to be taking care of asap.
please let us know what you find out where here for you.
sending you hugs and prayers

Hi Melissa-I haven't posted or replied in almost a year (I've been doing so great!!), but I am in a bit of a flare and up at 4 in the morning and felt I should reply to you. Your symptom is one of the first ones I had with this disease; it was awful-plus embarassing to mention. My uro said that it wasn't uncommon because our bladder, urethra, etc. (plus nerve endings) are all in that general area. Luckily, for me, it is one of the first symptoms to go when I get a flare under control, and if it is my only symptom....it doesn't last more than a few days. Hope your feeling better soon!

Hi Melissa,

I've experienced something really similar to that, although I am not officially diagnosed with IC as of yet. I'd say I get that pain once every month or two, and it does really hurt and it's an odd & scary sensation. I hope you feel better soon!

I don't really understand the pain you describe but I would do some reading on Vulvodynia. So many have both IC and Vulvodynia.

I have had this pain before -- it feels like I'm getting my clitoris pierced or something!! I brought it up with my doctor at one point and she suggested it was either nerve pain from my IC (the nerves in the pelvis are kind of all a jumble, and sometimes get confused -- thus we get referred pain, like when my bladder hurts my back and tailbone also hurt) or vulvodynia. Since I don't have a lot of trouble with other vulvodynia symptoms, we decided it was probably nerve pain.

For me, it's mostly happened after sex, and also randomly a few times, but it's very uncomfortable. Luckily, it usually clears up pretty quickly in my case.

Hope you feel better :grouphug:

It's always a good idea to report any new symptom to your doctor. It's not an unusual symptom for an ICer, but it's not necessarily caused by your IC.

Thanks everyone for your responses. Oddly (and wonderfully) enough, the pain is gone today. Woke up and poof, it was gone. I do also have VV, so who knows. That's what keeps IC so interesting, new stuff all the time, right? Oy. Whatever it is, I'm glad it's gone, and I hope it doesn't come back anytime soon.

Cheers to all you lovely ladies!

I have the same kind of thing that happens to me. It doesn't happen to me all the time either. It comes and goes.
