hi everyone, my name is Amy, I'm 19 and I have just been diagnosed with IC. I am so scared, because i am only 19 and i feel like i shouldnt be having these problems at my age. i mean, i am a full time student in the medical field, i don't really need this right now. but i am going to deal with it, by means of talking to others with the same problem, and watching what i eat, and taking my medicine (elmiron). well, i just wanted to introduce myself, talk to you soon. its good to know that there are places like this for people to go. bye bye!

:welcome: I know you'll find this site helpful as you learn to deal with your IC. I suggest you read the information in the Patient Handbook at http://www.ic-network.com/handbook --- you'll find answers to many of your questions there.

Sending encouraging hugs,
Donna

Hi and welcome, you have found a wonderful support system here at the network. I was diagnosed three years ago, and was so happy to find a group of gals who were able to help me through some rough times. There is wonderful advice on the boards and even though I am doing a lot better, I still check in as often as I can because of the wonderful support and help that is always here, whenever needed. Hope I can help you out in any way I can, and once again welcome, Iris. :welcome: :flower:

I was 19 when first diagnosed, and I am a ripe old 46 years old now and still kickin'! Good luck to you, and I'm living proof that IC doesn't HAVE to win!!!!

Welcome to our wonderful group of Bladder Buddies. I was diagnosed at an ancient 33, but I know there are quite a few 20 somethings around that will pop up eventually. Also know I am here if you have any questions, don't be embarrassed to ask. I'm a nurse, have been one for awhile and still have to ask questions. Nothing is ever too small or insignficant, especially during the diagnosis period when things are new and scary.

Hugs and :welcome: ,
Barb

hi everyone, it's me again. Yeah, I know I'm young, and it surprised me that I would have something like this at my age. It's been really hard, between trying to live with the pain and concentrate on school at the same time. I'm going to be a medical assistant, and I'm really excited about that, but at the same time, I'm nervous that this condition will affect my career. Today, I am going for my second DMSO treatment, and I would like to see if there is anything they can do for me for pain. As far as my diagnosis, I was diagnosed with IC about 3 weeks ago, and it's been hell ever since. The pain is horrible, it feels like there is broken glass in my pelvis. Anyway, back to my diagnosis, I was diagnosed with IC while my doctor did an in-office cytoscopy. He knew right away what it was just by looking at my bladder. Then, a week later I had to go to the hospital for my first DMSO treatment, where they also did a cytoscopy under general anesthesia and took a biopsy. That is when it was confirmed that I have IC. Sorry I have been rambling on, but someone wanted to know how I was diagnosed. Okay, well I have to go. Talk to you all later. bye bye!
