i have just been diagnosed with IC this afternoon.
i have suspected IC since i first sought out treatment.

i am 24 years old and suspect i have had IC for at least 6 years.
im worried about progression as it has gotten worse from when symptoms started.

i also have adverse reactions to local and general anasthetic.

in any case my name is kristi and if anyone has any treatment tips with my anasthesia problems i'd truly appreciate hearing them.

:welcome: to the IC Network. I'm sorry you have IC, but glad you found us.

I also have a problem with general anesthesia --- any time I have a procedure requiring anesthesia, my choice is a spinal if at all possible. I have a tendency to nausea and always require anti-nausea medications.

Most of us find that once we have a diagnosis and begin treatment and the IC diet, our symptoms improve. I hope you will have the same experience.

You'll want to read the information in the Patient Handbook at http://www.ic-network.com/handbook

Sending warm well wishes,
Donna

thank you for responding.
i am looking into changing my diet.
its slightly scary to me as i have had an eating disorder for many years, though i am now in somewhat remission. cutting foods out was always something "bad" for me.
i am going to try to eliminate the really bad foods and see what happens.
i have reactions anesthetics which cause me to become psychotic, weird i know but my body just does not accept them.
(going to the dentist is hell)
i will wait and see and then figure out what is my modt viable option i suppose..

thanks for the tips though.

For some reason, i know what you feel like but i havent had the amount of pain that you are describing. I was diagnosed with endometriosis when i was 16 but had a lot of pain since and despite the 4 laparoscopies the pain keeps coming back even though each time my doc doesnt find much diseased tissue if any at all. I was diagnosed june 30,2005 and have been taking elmiron since and have had 2 bladder distillations since and can tell a big difference. I was thinking that maybe all the pain i was having for the last few years could have been IC and not endo. my doc told me that when i was diagnosed, it could well be the reason i havent had much results with my endo treatments. :bonk: how crazy is that? sometimes i hate being a woman.

I tend to not want to wake up .. like in October 2004 with my cystoscopy. I remember telling them in recovery that my chest/breast bone hurt. They said it was just from being tubed.

The next day I had 3 small bruises along my breastbone - right between the breasts and I hurt there more than the bladder (made me wonder is they went down the throat to look at the bladder!) When they called to do follow-up the next day I told them about it. They called back and said that when I was being transported to recovery I decided to "hold my breath" and they had to do sternal rub to get me to start breathing again.

That's me! Can't do anything easy and simple!

I recall the first time I had to put out for foot surgery - surgery was done at 10:30am -- I woke up at 3:00pm.

So ever since I've told them that I get very tired and they adjust the meds accordingly. Just let them know - they can give you something while in OR that can reduce your chances of nausea. Luckily I don't get nauseated from anesthesia.

Hi and :welcome: to the ICN!! Looks like you've already got some good advice for a beginner -- if you haven't, check out our Patient Handbook at http://www.ic-network.com/handbook . It is full of information on IC treatments and self-help strategies and can point you in the right direction when you're just beginning your search for things that help. :)

Good luck, and welcome to our family. Come back as often as you like :D

Welcome Twice Shy,
Please consult a nutritionist, overcoming an eating disorder is hard and then to have to work in the IC diet is an added stress. I had an eating disorder about 15 years ago, I know what you are going through.I enrolled in an out patient hospital clinic, it was group sessions, it helped tremedously. My thoughts are with you.
