Hi,
I don't know where to start so I guess I'll just come right out and ask it ;)
Could my 2 yr old Daughter have inherited my IC from me? The reason that I'm asking is because I took her to her Peditrician the other day due to a UTI, that's what they said that it was, and they also said that it could have been a little cystitis thing.
She did take a Urine sample for them really good since she's 2. And it came back negative, and clear so I'm glad for that.
But, my MIL kept her the other night and she said that she went to the bathroom every 15 mins apart for like 3 times.
Abby Gabby (That's what we call her ;) ) also complains of burning down there too when she does go to the bathroom.....I hope to God for her sake that she didn't get it from me b/c I know how miserable it is and I don't want her to have that kind of life. But, if she does have it then she does. No big deal to me, I'm not the type to go into denial about it.
I just don't know what to do or where to turn if she does have it.....should I take her to my Uro or my Dr to see? If she doesn't get any better after her Antibiotic? Which I don't think is helping her that much just giving her some loose BM's I know ewww sorry lol.
But, my main question or concern is how old do they have to be when they can start getting this? Or is this just a bad UTI? I think that she may have a slight case of it allready :( Like I said I hope not for her sake, but, if she does I want her taken care of.
Thanks for listening.....any comments are greatly appreciated.
TIA!
Kate.

It's not unusual for little girls to have UTI's. There are several things that can cause it. If she gets them repeatedly, you'll want to investigate to be sure she's not being molested. Those bubbly things that go in the bath tub can be a problem. You'll want to be sure she's wearing 100% cotton underpants. Wiping after a BM can be problematic if she's doing it herself --- it's very easy to transfer those contaminants to her urethra. You may want to switch to something like baby wipes and clean her yourself after she goes.

Try not to worry --- as I said, bladder infections are not unusual in little girls.

Hey guys,
Thanks, I thought that bladder infections were pretty common in little girls too.
I do admitt that I give her some sips of my soft drinks every now and then too and I told her Pediatrician that but, he didn't seem to think that's what was wrong.....he was leaning more towards Potty Training.
Donna, thanks for the advice.....about how often should they occur though to start getting curious if I should have that checked into? I don't think that anyone is doing that, they better not be or I'll be majorly p******, I think that I'd beat them down ;) and could too when it comes to her.....of course I'd take it to court though lol....but, I don't think that's an option here though.
I still get them from time to time so I was just wondering if she could be inheriting my problems.
Thanks again for the advice and comments ;) any more would be appreciated too.

PS She was wiping it herself at school and I found that out, and asked her Teachers if they could just watch to make sure that she gets it all off by herself and if she needs help than to help her some. I trust them, I've known them 40 forever's and one of her Teacher's is my best friend there just about ;)
I wipe her here at home now too after mom told me that too. It just doesn't seem like this one is wanting to go away :( I don't think that the Med's doing anything for her, she's still p'ing quiet frequently today which I have been giving her more Water so maybe that's it too. It just makes it hard on me for potty training her though bless her heart :(
I just wish that she could get better......she was having a screaming hissy fit before I got her down for a nap and I asked her what was wrong and she started complaining of down below saying it was hurting so I gave her some Tylenol to help her rest, and now here I sit when I have 200 things to do today and I need a nap too lol.
Take Care and thanks again sorry so long of a PS ;)

Kate,
If she continues to have problems there are some wonderful pediatric urologists out there. My six year old son sees one at Children's Hospital in Boston.

Kate,

My husband and I had a scare about 6 months ago. In fact our daughter did have a UTI. They gave us antibiotics AND put her through some greuling test to make sure she did not have reflux of the urinary tract. It is normal for girls to get a UTI (more so than boys) but our pediatrician did not want to take any chances. They first did an ultrasound and then they did (I can't remember the name of the test.) that took xrays of the urinary tract. Brynn, my daughters name, did not like the test and hates to pee in a cup, but like you, I worry about her having IC. If she continues to have problems or you are concerned, I would have the test. It doesn't hurt, it is just big machines and cameras which scared her. My husband was refusing to let her have the test but, I just had to know if there were problems. Everything turned out to be fine but they still check her urine every time she is at the doctor.

Best of luck.

Hi all :)

I was about to post with the same concern for my (nearly) 4 year old. After several times of running to the loo with urgency and very little coming out I took her to the doctors last week and after a culture they semi-diagnosed a UTI. When I say "semi," she had some white sells (leucocytes) and traces of blood and a mixed bacterial growth. They said that while it wasn't definately a UTI it was likely. So after a hysterical breakdown on my part I put her on a week of antibiotics which she stopped yesterday. Today she has 3 times run to the loo with urgency and once she said "ouch' holding on to her groin. I did a dipstick and it was clear. The weird thing is the entire time she has not been unwell at all- running around very happily, no sign of illness just the peeing. The antibiotics seem to stop the frequency but now it is back.

I. like you and terrified she has my IC. I just think that would be the end of me if I had to cope with that- seeing her in pain when there is no cure and worrying about the future problems she will face. I am pregnant again and if this IC is hereditary I will die.

We have to take her back for a culture tommorrow and follow up Monday and the GP also mentioned kidney scan etc. I am praying and praying she will be ok.

Glad to know we are not alone at least but any further advice would be most appreciated.

anxious one,

I know that the test they did on my daughter was hard but I too was worried sick that she had IC. I would request the test to see if she has reflux of the bladder or kidneys. The test is well worth the worrying that we do as parents. If it is reflux, it is a simple surgery (or so they say!). I wish you the best of luck, there is nothing like having to watch your child suffer in pain. Especially since we know the misery in this pain.

I will pray that everything is OK with your daughter.

Thank-you for your thoughts and prayers. The situation has not improved unfortunately. I had to take her to the doctors again today- same symptoms, this time with protein and some leucocytes on the dipstick. Needless to say, I am very, very worried. I am taking her back on Monday (to my doctor,)ure results. Unfortunately, being a Saturday I had to take her to the local med centre which was hopeless.

I am going to write a more detailed post under "symptoms of IC." I don't think too many people check theis board so hopefully I will get some more feedback there.

Thank-you again for your post :)
