I'm having an in-office cysto done in 2 weeks (finally, been having symptoms now for 3 months, have done the "wait it out", antibiotics, ultrasounds, and IVP) one question I forgot to ask the doctor - how soon will he know the results from the in-office cysto?

Also I just wanted to thank you all for the posts on the boards. They have been so helpful. I came across this board after my second opinion dr said she thought I may have IC (after my family dr gave up on me!) - I started reading all the stories and I thought, my gosh, these sound like me! It is so reassuring to see that others understand. I've been able to read about the tests, etc and be prepared ahead of time.

Thank you!

You normally get the results during the actual appointment. In mine, she gave me a running commentary of what she saw while she was looking in the scope! You should walk out of there knowing what they did/did not see and what they want to do or try next. Good luck, I was scared before mine but it really did not hurt!

I also was told about findings at the same appointment. My bladder looked normal and healthy during the office cysto. It's a part of the diagnostic process, but will not usually diagnose IC.

OK, thank you, that is good to know. I will be glad to have it done, I really feel like I am getting closer to a diagnosis (slowly but surely!)

your doctor should be able to tell you right then if he sees or suspects anything. keep in mind that an IC bladder can look perfectly normal with an in office cysto.
have they ever done a hydro/cysto. that is done under sedation in the hospital. Its an out patient procdure?

My urologist said (and this is HIS opinion, just sharing it with you), that he doesnt believe in doing the in office cysto's because they dont inflate the bladder, and they cant really see anything, and wind up doing a hydro/cysto in the OR, like brat said, anyway.

I would ask his opinion on this before you have it done....it's better to have one procedure done that will actually show them what they need to see than one that tells them basically nothing (because they cant see) and having to have a second. Anything inserted into our urethras can be a big deal because we're sensitive there and can get infections easily.

I hope I'm not sounding rude, I'm not trying to....just want you to know your options first.

Hope things go well for you, Sandy

No, this will be the first cystoscopy, ever. I've had a pelvic ultrasound, trans-v ultrasound, and an IVP (all came back OK). I did question the cysto but was told that is protocol for my particular symptoms.
