Lots of you encouraged me to do the whole TV news interview thing locally about IC, and know how reluctant I was and not at all sure of its effect....I had a phone call today from a physician 40 miles away who saw the TV spot and said he takes a personal interest in IC (although an OB/'Gyn by specialty) and has offered to come at any time to speak to our support group...most importantly: he said he is VERY encouraged that IC patients such as ourselves have the courage and self motivation to get the word out that IC does exist! :woohoo: I have also had several phone calls from viewers and was stopped at the local quick-stop in town by people that are quite convinced now that they are NOT crazy and are very excited that somebody is around and willing to listen! :woohoo: I told EVERY person I spoke with to come here, to these boards, and really get to see what IC is like in the REAL day-to-day world, and how much easier it makes it to deal with IC in our own daily lives. The Dr. I spoke with said he understands completely our frustration, and although I don't know him personally other than speaking with him today, I really felt him to be sincere. (After all...he took the time to contact me personally...not thru a secretary or anything) So here's my challenge: If I can do it, YOU can do it! I live in a teeny tiny community- think what you could do in large cities!!!! Contact your local papers and news channels and tell them there's IC on the horizon and the cowgirls (and boys) are headin' in!!!!! :biglaugh:
Kidding aside, this has proved to me the importance of group support....I NEVER would have had the courage to do it at all without all of you showing me YOUR courage first, by posting sensitive issues on the Boards, and by reminding me that unless we all work together toward a cure and good treatment, it won't happen! :grouphug: Get talking and keep talking!!! It works! :)
