I went to a specialist when I couldnt control my bouts of needing to go. The doctor diagnosed me with IBS and also perscribed Citrucel. I drink the power kind with 8 ounces of water each morning. I also take imodium ad. At first I had to take the imodium before I ate each meal and whenever I had diareah. I am now down to just taking the citrucel each day and will take the imodium when I have the diareah. I still tend to watch things and will still need to get to a bathroom right away. I hate having another reason the run to the bathrrom and to know where every restroom in the stores are.

just wanted to share
thanks

Hi Dawn...I know that feeling....I am glad you have gotten some relief. Are you avoiding fats, acid, corn, and things like that? ((hugs)) Take Care girl!

Sure can relate, Dawn. I have IC and IBS as well. Between the two conditions I don't know what to eat or drink. IC diet is much more restricting than IBS - I end up eating far too many carbohydrates and the nutrition end of it is really lacking. I also have had bouts of diverticulitis so many foods with seeds etc. are out. Thru all of this- the pain goes on anyway- some days are really hard to face. So helpful to know that I'm not alone and can get support from fellow IC folks on this board. Looking forward to a remission- constant flaring really wipes me out.

Hi All,
I dont know if I have IBS but everyday it gets worse. It started out as in the morning right after I took my meds(with water) immediately I would have stomach cramps. I still drink coffee even though I have IC (just cant give it up, only 1 a day). I usually have a sip or two and I have to have a BM. If I dont get up that second to go the urgency gets really bad. When I get to the bathroom I'm either constipated or have diarrehea (sp?). Each day or every other day is different. Just to mention I've never had a problem with having a BM until about a year ago when I had problems with some meds. I'm really just looking for another persons opinion. You all know about all the dr's we've been through and I'm not sure if I should even mention it to my GP, uro or gyno. Thanks for an opinions/advice anyone can give.
God Bless,

The doctor thinks I have always had IBS. For a long time the only time I had any problems with BM's is during the week of my period. so they said I had the constipation IBS. I now apparently have the diareah IBS. Sometimes I'm afraid to eat any where but at home. It can be anywhere from 5 minutes to a couple hours after I eat and I will need to go badly and quickly. I have been trying to watch what i eat and that has been helpful. sometimes though I can eat something one time and have no problems but eat it another time and have to go. The citrucel and imodium have also done wonders. I am one of those people that hated to go anywhere but at home. now if I have to go I have no chose but to use public restrooms. I'm still embarressed to have a bm away from home but will do it to relieve the pain. its a day to day thing for the most part.

Dawn,
Its funny that you say that about having BMs when you get your period. I have constipation right before I get my period. I guess I'm gonna have to wait and see what happens.....
Thanks,

Right now my IBS is worse than my IC. Will definitely be staying away from whole wheat for a long while. My IBS-C turned into IBS-D when I started eating whole wheat breads. NOT a great idea, so it turns out. Going back to my basic white bread for sure.

If you can try to stay away from all wheat including white flour and see if it makes a difference. I was misdiagnosed with IBS for 30 years before finding out I had celiac (intolerance to wheat, rye and barley).

CudaGirl17,
Just read your post...the mention of coffee caught my eye. I've had IBS-D for about 8 years now, and have tried to identify certain foods that coincide with my bouts. Coffee (especially on an empty stomach), refined sugar (like in jelly beans and other candies), and dairy late at night are some of the triggers I've identified. Generally, coffee in the middle of the day doesn't seem to bother me. Also, if there's something I'm thinking about more than I should (aka 'stress'), I notice more problems with the IBS. I've just been diagnosed with IC now, so I'm back to identifying food triggers for that. Just wanted to share some foods I've found to be troublesome.

Just figured out today that my problem with whole wheat flour was that I tried to eat too much of it as I re-introduced it back into my diet. Too much fiber for me at one time. Tried a light wheat roll today at lunch and it did okay. Guess I'm just going to have to limit how much fiber I eat or introduce it more slowly into my system. Really glad that I found out!

Are you okay with Citrusel? Does it bother your IC?
I really need something to help with constipation, but am tired of buying things that don't work out & my mom gave me some of this. (Have been too chicken to try it so far).

Kadi, I have tried FiberCon and psyllium capsules for my constipation but they both cause such severe reactions to my body. FiberCon has calium in it and calcium makes my constipation worse. (That's why I had to stop taking the Prelief) The psyllium gave me horrible gas pains and messed up my IBS a whole lot worse. So, no I haven't tried the Citrucel or Metamucil or anything like that. It seems that I can only tolerate help through my diet. This has been my experience. Hope the info will help you some.

Thank You All for all of the suggestions. The more I read these posts the more I think I have IBS, a mild case though but its really irritating than anything else.....who needs more problems when I think IC is enough. I also have colitis so I dont know if that can contribute to it or not or maybe the IC or Pelvic Floor Dysfunction.......I'm just glad its not at the point where I have to find a bathroom everywhere I go, even though I do now for my irritable bladder and the IC.....LOL :bonk:
Thanks Again,
God Bless,
