I find that if i drink too much tea ( parsly , cham, or marshmallow ) all day my symptoms are worse sometimes.
when and how much is the best time to drink our water?
I waited 1 hour after dinner to drink a cup of honey water and i had bad pain in the bladder all evening.

I just sip on water all day long. I do drink some in the evening too, but try to limit it. I am usually up a couple of times a night no matter what I do. Better than the 4 or 5 times it had been.

Rather than a lot at one time though, I just sip it.

I also take small drinks throughout the day. If I'm really thirsty I can drink a whole glass, but usually I only drink about four ounces at a time.

I drink a lot in the mornings and early afternoon because I am so dry............then I think I naturally taper off in the evening................

When I drink hot drinks it makes my frequency get worse. I cool all my herbal teas to room temp. or put them in the fridge before I drink them. Sometimes I really crave a hot drink and then I drink it and know that my frequency will get a bit worse for a bit.

My uro looked at my recent voiding diary and told me that I drink too much. I don't know how to cut down, though, I get so thirsty!

Whenever I drink any water, even just a small amount, I seem to go more than if I drank something with caffeine or even ice tea. What is the best way to start drinking the water on a regular basis (the 8/8oz. glasses a day) so that your body and bladder can get used to it and to where you won't go as often? It is hard for me to drink water and try to go anywhere, when I drink water I just go, go and go about every 5 minutes or so it seems. I know I need to drink more water but I din't because of how it causes me to go so much.

Any help and suggestions out there?

Thank You All,

Kim

I told my uro I was drinking 8 8 ounce glasses of water a day, and he said he doesnt watch how many he drinks and to just drink them when thirsty, dont slam em just to get your intake in. Also drink what is needed when taking meds.(elmiron needs a cup of water w/them). I also go more w/any hot liquid, but its not enough to worry me. Marshmallow root is a mild diuretic same w/parsley. For the one that goes after even water, are you drinking tap or spring? Some ppl cant handle tap, maybe try distilled or spring (maybe evian or poland spring, or ice mountain, dannon bothers some). Trying to give help for a few ppl here hope I did.

Kim:
When you say you have to go every 5 minutes are you serious?
If so,, do you have any urine to get out?
also, Do you feel a "normal" needing to pee feeling, or is it acompanyed by a raw unusual feeling?
thanks

I, like everyone else only drink water when I get thirsty. I actually try to cut back with how much liquid I take in just because I know the more I drink the more I'll be peeing. I also discovered that I can't handle tap water (well I never really could, I would always get really sick from it). I tried the whole water filter thing and that worked for awhile, but now since I have been diagnosed with IC I've been having flare ups with the filter. NOW I just stick with bottled water. It has cut back on me getting sick, plus with flare ups. But don't get me wrong there are some brands of bottle water that give me flares. ie Dysani or however you spell it.

When I drink a lot of water at once, I, too go every five minutes ... and yes, there is urine. My bladder only holds 100 cc, so as soon as it reaches that level - the urge is there. Today, I was drinking water as I was driving (8 hour trip). I was wearing a pad and I watched the clock every time I got the urge. I ended up changing 5 or 6 pads in that amount of time. They were saturated.
My jaw always drops when I read that others are having the exact same strange symptoms. It takes a load off my shoulders when I realize that I am NOT crazy. I'm not the only one having these strange things happen.
Thanks, folks for the input.

The honey in water thing doesn't set that well with my bladder either. Could be that honey has a ph of around 4, that's acidic. Some bladders are more sensitive to acid than others. I drink 1 bottle of water (1 pint, 9 oz) at the very least, 3 times a day, more if I am thirsty. I generally stick to just water if my bladder, or urgency/ frequency is acting up, otherwise, I'm just adding to the problem.

Maybe not every 5 minutes, but I know at least every 10 minutes when I drink water.

Don't worry, just one one large glass (about 16oz) of water gives me about 5-10 minute frequency when I drink it all at once. See, I find that bulk consumption does wonders for the burning and time lapse between attempting to release my urine and actually going (don't know if you experience anything like that). Still, my urgency becomes a little less distinct. Sometimes I feel a bit irresponsible when I have to compromise. It's just always the choice between irritation and frequency. I can't stand it!!

My doctor is having me drink 8 cups of water a day but breaks them up. Im suppose to have 2 with breakfast, 1 inbetween, 2 with lunch, 1 in between, and 2 at dinner. I'm not allowed to have anymore fluids and especially after dinner. I was told that sipping water all day wasn't good for you. I have been doing this for about two weeks or so and it seems to be helping but Frequency is not my biggest issue.. It seems to be helping with my pain and sanity (since now I feel like I'm on a schedule and have something to go on). Don't know, I guess we'll just have to see how this works out. Has anyone else's doctor given them similar advice? Just wondering....

My doc said I could drink when thirsty. With the bladder meds, that can be quite often. He did say that the 8 glass thing was a guide, but that 3 would be fine for me. I do drink a lot when I start feeling the burning. That dilutes the urine, but increases frequency. I'd rather be running than hurting. Gotta run. - not to the bathroom - just another appointment

huh...when i was originally diagnosed four years ago my urologist told me to drink 20 ounces of water every hour for the first four hours of the day, and then to drink whenever i was thirsty after that. i found that it really helped me.

this time around, i have a 32-oz nalgene water bottle that i take with me wherever i go, and i drink half of it every hour and find myself having to go like clockwork exactly an hour later. my doc says it's a good idea to drink the equivalent of half your body weight in ounces of water, but at least drink 64 oz every day.
