Hi all! I had posted in another section about a raging flare up I'm having right now. I saw my uro today to get checked for a UTI. It was negative as usual. I've started having really bad stabbing pains in my pelvic area and lower back. They didn't find any evidence of kidney stones or anything like that. He said again that my IC is "severe" and this appears to be just a nasty nasty flare up. It's the worst one ever..I've never felt so weak and drained before. It really sucks. And my father-in-law will be here in 4 days, whom I've never met before, to visit before dh deploys to Iraq. :headbang: So that's the scoop..but here's my question...has anyone out there been told to take Paxil on an "as needed" basis during severe flare ups? I already take Lortab 7.5 for pain, Mepergan for breakthrough pain, Valium (2mg) 1x per day, Elavil 10mg (at night), and Atarax 50 mg at night. He said to take the Paxil only during really bad flare ups, one 10 mg in the morning. I did ask him if I should take it on top of the Elavil, and he said yes only during really bad pain days.
My uro is really an amazing and compassionate man. He's been practicing for years. But everything I've read about Paxil says most people take it every day. :hmm: He said it may help squash some of the ulcer pain on my worst days and did specify to take it in the morning only and only as needed since I take the Elavil at night. He gave me a script for 20 Paxil to see if it helps. I'm leary of winding up on some emotional roller coaster from being on 2 anti-depressants. I've been crying for 3 days from the pain and it was not a pretty sight by the time I made it to his office. Dh had to leave work from the Army early to come and drive me to the uro's. Ugh.
Then I got to reading about some of the wicked side effects. Well, I'm pretty desperate at this point, and if it helps my PAIN then it may be worth it.
Please if any of you take this as needed and not everyday I would really appreciate if you could share you experience w/me. :)
It's off to bed I crawl........................pain pain go away!!!!!!!!! :cussing:
p.s. My uro told mentioned to my husband today that he is soooo grateful that I have this IC website to lean on for support. He thinks it's really great and said he's told his other IC patients about it. :)
