Hi,
I don't know where to write about this - and maybe this is the wrong place. I had electrical stimulation today, and I gather it was originally designed to treat problems with incontinence, and my urologist said he has some success using it to treat IC. It's temporary, not the surgical version. I thought it was just one visit but it is supposed to be weekly for awhile. Has anyone else had this done? I found it very difficult today. Thanks for listening.
Thank you,
ErinBear

I'm not sure what procedure you've had. Haven't heard of the weekly visit. That would cause some problems for me since I live 3 hours away. Is there something attached to your body? It sounds interesting. But not too easy. I hope you are feeling better.

Erinbear...I had the Interstim therapy surgery done in January and at least for my surgery they did a test trial surgery that I had in for a week with wires sticking out my back and then a week later I had the device permanently implanted...R u sure that this is a weekly thing cause I have never heard of that, unless it is something new...I had the Interstim surgery cause I have IC, but it helps mainly with urgency and those types of problems..i hope it works well for u though...Take care
Jen

Hi,
No, this isn't Interstim, and it's not a surgical procedure. It's a temporary thing at each visit. They place a conductor inside the vagina and deliver electrical stimulation to muscles and nerves in the area. I gather it was originally designed to treat incontinence, but apparently it can also help people with IC. I think it is called E-Stim. The conductor is removed at the end of each visit. For lack of a better description, it's sort of like a big plastic tampon.
Good luck with the Interstim - I hope it will help!

Hi,
I had the electric stimulation done at my physical therapy visit. I had a bad reaction from it. My entire body felt as if it was on fire. This feeling lasted for 2 weeks and just to make bearable I had to double my pain medication of oxycontin.

Hi GG,
Sorry to hear about the bad reaction you had to the treatment. That's different than what I'm experiencing, although at this point my pain is worse anyway. I can see why you needed more Oxycontin. I hope tomorrow will be a better day here.
Thanks for writing back....sorry it was so rough for you...
Hugs,
ErinBear
