I attempted to give blood during a blood donor drive at the local hospital. After checking my meds, I was told I was ineligible to donate because of
Elmiron! I was disappointed. I have given blood before IC and had done so relatively frequently. Anybody else have that happen?

Elmiron is in the same class as blood thinners, which may be why you were considered ineligible. I haven't given blood since beginning Elmiron treatment (not because of that, but because of travel to third-world countries over the past two years) so I don't know if what you experienced was typical.

I am sorry about that. I know I can't give blood because I am not anemic. I did not know elmiron was a blood thiner.

When I was diagnosed with IC, I was told I could no longer give blood. Before that I was a regular donor.

Donna,
What reason were you told you couldn't give blood because you have IC? I am planning to give next week.

Thanks,
Lyn

I don't think I even mentioned IC. They usually ask what medications are being taken. From there the nurse checked a book with everything listed and said they couldn't accept my blood.
Other times they haven't taken my blood because I'm ABO Positive. Not too many people have that type, but whoever has that type can take any blood.

I was told that just the fact that I have IC meant I couldn't give blood.
