I changed my uro this past month due to the distance and volume my doctor in town was getting. My new uro said he was going to put steroids in my bladder the next time I go in this July. Has anyone else used this and what were the results?

Though I have not had this type of treatment, I have heard of steroids being instilled into the bladder as Donna described. More recently, I have heard some doctors are trying injections of steroids into the bladder. A few months ago there was a man on the boards who posted he was trying the injections and they were helping. I don't remember who it was but, hopefully, someone else will come along who does remember and can lead you to the thread discussing this.

I'm glad that you have either heard of this method of treatment or have had steroids installments into your bladder. I am just getting to know this uro and it takes time to feel comforatable. If anyone else has had good results or has had steroids injected into the bladder let me know. I sometimes wonder what the long term affects could be. I do not see him until July and I don't know him enough to have him call me. When I do see him I probably will ask him but I don't want him to think I do not have faith in him. I just do not know him well enough. Thanks

As soon as you find anything out about this let us know. I am also having a lot of trouble right now and not sure what step to take.
Good luck

Two drugs that come to mind that are corticosteroids and may be used for bladder instillations are Solu-Cortef and Kenalog.

Kenalog is used along with marcaine and heparin as part of a bladder cocktail prescribed by the uro-gynecologist in the group of OB-GYN's that I see. He has a very good success rate with that combination.

Thank you for responding to my post. Now I at least I have some kind of information and language that I can communicate with on this procedure. Any other information or experience with steroids would be appreciated :)TAKE CARE!!!

i dont know if you are having the same thing as i did, but what they did to me was put in a catheter, than put a "cocktail" into my bladder. it was mostly steroids with some pain medications! i would have to go every tuesday for 6 weeks. so every tuesday i wouldnt be able to move. wed. was no better, thursday was like a really bad flare, friday-sunday was normal daily pain, and monday would be ok... later in the 6 weeks i would feel good like sun. mon... then maybe sat. sun. mon., but after the 6 weeks were over i only felt good for about 2 weeks! and when you are done it is supose to help for a few months. if this is what you are getting... think about this... it may work for you, everybodys body is diferent, it could work.. but is it worth the pain? it was a very painfull pocedure, and could be painfull for a while after. and to me was not worth it! but then again if it does work for you it could be worth it! my oppinion is, you should try anything you can! you never will know what works for you, unless you experience it yourself. but if you do, and again if this is what your doctor told you he was doing, if you do get this procedure done have someone drive you! on my 3rd or 4th visit i was leaving and i couldnt drive it hurt so bad... and the urgency hit me! i had to go! so i sped up a bit and got a speeding ticket, plus he made me sit there too long, and i had to stop at the closet bathroom and couldnt make it home! so not having to drive is a big help, and relieves some of the stress, and pain! anyways... good luck and i hope that everything goes ok for you if you go through with it or not! what doesnt help, only makes you stronger! and closer to finding something that could help you with your ic!

When I was having steroid instillations, I was still working. I would go to my uro's office, which was very near my work place, have the instill, then go directly back to work.

I've been having Heparin instills and two weeks ago my doctor added the steroid Solumedrol. That 1st week was the best I have felt since Febuary. This last week has not been as good but then again since I wa feeling half way decent I had pizza. Boy did it taste good but I sure have been paying the price for that big time. Pizza is surely on my no-no list.

I will be going in on July 28th for my procedure. I have just been hanging in there taking pain pills and I just have a couple more days to wait. I think I will ask him when I see him after my procedure in his office. This is the first time with this new uro my old uro trained him and said he was a good doctor. My family doctor has sent other patients to his office and they like him as well. I will let you know how it goes and the steroid drug he is using. Take Care :)

I will be having chromolyn added to my mixture next week for my instills. It is usually an inhaled steriod. For some reason my doctor really prefers this steriod and thinks it is the best for soothing properties and reducing mast cell activity. Hope this helps.
