I am 29 weeks pregnant and still not sure about nursing after the baby is born. I will definately be induced by 39 weeks due to IC symptoms being really bad. I am on Elmiron right now and the doctor said if we can deliver as soon as possible I can be treated more for the IC. I am wondering is there medications for IC that I can take during breastfeeding that I can't while pregnant? I have tried ditropan (made me worse) and Zyrtec while pregnant. None that worked. Just curious if anyone has any info for me. Thanks, Ann

all i know is that the nurse told me i could probably take some of my IC meds if i wanted to breast feed......i think just for the safety reasons and i have no idea what my IC will do afterwards i am not going to breastfeed.........She said i would just have to discuss it with my URo and my Gyno if i wanted too........I know that isn't much help but its all i know. GOOD luck with your decision.............I hope all goes well......its hard being pregnant and having IC isn't it?? I am 37 weeks this week and just waiting for the blessed event to arrive........feel free to email me if like.......

Hi!!!

I am about 32 weeks & have the same questions as well. I too am on Elmiron (have been on it for about 3 months) & My OB has also ok'd me taking a low dose of hydroxzine (20mg) which I think has really helped. I think you can take Percocet while nursing. I think you take it right before you nurse, so by the time the baby finishes nursing, it hits your bloodstream. I really wantt o nurse as well, so I hope my IC is better after delivery.

Let me know what you hear & good luck! Are you having a vaginal delivery or a planned c-section?

I find this to be a complicated subject.

You have the following options

1. Nurse on meds with the related concerns
2. Nurse and not take meds and live with horrid pain
3. Not nurse *BUT* IC is believed to be an autoimmune disease and genetic, nursing gives babies antibodies and an improved immune system.

I would nurse on the safest meds possible.
