i had stomach pain 3 days ago and on and off lower left pain sometimes. i got a pelvic ultrasound done today and they found a cyst on my left ovary.the radiologist was ride and did'nt answer any of my questions properly and said she would show the results to the doctor and then send it to my PCP who ordered the ultrasound.
what not? i am so scared.i am not even sure what kind of cyst it was. it seems normal functional cystys look like black holes, this one had a line on it.when i googled i found this could be a complez cyst.
i've crying ever since and since there's a weekend ahead i will know nothing till monday atleast.
what do u think friends? i need your support, thanks

Hi Sabin,
Its me, Emily (MassageDoula) I am so sorry that this happened to you....but do they think that the cyst might have been the cause of your bladder troubles? I know that you have not been diagnosed with IC yet, so maybe could it be that the cyst is pressing on your bladder??? If so, then it is something that is probably curable, and not like IC!
It takes a trained doctor/radiologist to read an ultrasound. They can look scary but that doesn't mean that it is serious. In the beginning of my bladder pain journey I got an ultasound too. They told me that my ovaries were "grossly enlarged with multiple cysts" to make a long story short, I worried that I might never be able to have children, etc. I have shown the ultrsounds to 3 doctors and all said not to worry about it. Some women have cysts and that is all.
Please let us know what your doctor tells you...don't feel scared to keep calling his office to get an answer if he is being slow in getting back to you. You need to know to put your mind at ease.

thanks for the quick response Emily. i felt reassured after reading your post. yes the problem could be not IC but then my main symptom is burning and i am not sure if the cyst could cause that to happen, what do u think?
lately i've been having frequency on and off. when i had the stomach pain i drank cola for 2 days to ease the stomach pain and was expecting a major flare due to the cola, but nothing happened.all this makes me wonder if my problem is IC or something else.
right now i am so worried about the cyst. i only hope they don't ask me to go for operation to remove it.i often think about the dreaded C word.
did u have any pain where u had the cysts or irregular periods and what did u do about them eventually?
have u been on birth control before?
i have pain in the lower left but my period are quite regular,
i will let u know what happens on monday when they get my reports, please pray for me.
also i am sorry i did not reply to your other message bcoz of all this going on
you wrote that your cysto is scheduled for july 5th? i think it's a good idea to get it over with, for peace of mind at least. as i've said before it's not as bad as we imagine,so don't worry.
what natural stuff are u trying?
i have my urologist appointment next week and i hope to get some answers about my symptoms.
ok Emily,take care

As long as they are calling it a cyst, it is a harmless growth unless it interferes with body organs. Cysts are not unusual --- most of the female population either has one or will have one by age 40. Usually they go unnoticed because they don't cause problems.

Sometimes if the cyst is pushing on the bladder ligaments it can cause bladder symptoms I had endo and adhesions and ovarian cyst removed 6 wks ago but unfourtnely I still have ic also. I wish you luck you are in my thought and prayers.

I never did anything about my cysts. No-one ever told me that they were big enough or important at all, just that they were there. I have not had irregular periods either, have you? I have pain all the time in the lower right. Either it is something with my bladder or else some trigger point in a deep muscle. I am planning to ask the doctor when I get my cystoscopy what it is. I asked another doctor and they did not give me an answer. Please let me know on Monday what happens. Are you still seeing Dr. Fred at Virginia Mason?

Sabin,
I have a history of ovarian cysts. I had a cyst removed at 18 (right ovary), another at 19 (left ovary). Then at 23, and seeing a fertility specialist trying to get pregnant the gyn found an etopic cyst that caused me to loose my right ovary. 13 months later I had my son. I now have six cysts on my remaining ovary, the doctor said that it meant that my ovary was still functioning and as long as it wasn't bothering me, I shouldn't worry about it. I do have a annual ultrasound to monitor it.
My point of telling you my story is that I worried myself til I made myself sick each time they found a cyst. Try not to worry, I know two people that had ovarian cysts that were the type to worry about. Both times, the radiologist called the doctor right away and the doctor called them within a day of having the ultrasound. The only time they usually make you wait is when it is nothing worry about.

I've had a history of cysts on my right ovary. They come and go and always have resolved on their own without the need for surgery. The last one discovered when I was getting an ultrasound to check the placement of my IUD. I have a wierd uterus...what can I say. That said, the doctor said is was a complex cyst...but that it was small and just needed to be watched. By the time I went in to check it the next month it had disappeared.

It depends on the woman and if they go away or not in some women they do not go away on they own. I know I get recurring cysts and they all had to be removed surgically and was really painful. I would follow up with your dr. In some cases they do go away on their on and I hope in your case it does.

Thank u so much everyone for your support and advice.
Actually since i got the ultrasound done on friday,i will know only on monday. the radiologist told me very little and i still know nothing.I mean whether or not it's a complex one or a simple one. Also since the one i have is causing some pain and causes significant pain during the mid-cycle,i do think they might want to do something about it.
I have heard birth control pills help but don't know for what type of cysts.
The weekend has been really tense for me and i was logging on every hour to check for your messages...and every message made me feel better:)
I just hope tommorow i get to know the detail.I
want to have kids someday and be healthy for it to happen.i have never been this anxious.
i will post tommorow,
thanks all,
Sabin
