Hi all

I have a very, very good friend who has been exceptionally supportive these past 3 years. He is my chiropractor. He had to go in last week and have a biopsy to find out if he had bladder cancer or IC. He got a hold of me today. He has IC. Funny, he's an RN, a chiropractor, but he doesn't know the first thing of what to do. He's not particulary fond of surfing the web but I think he needs dietary help first. (you should see what he eats....not unhealthy but very acidic...makes my gut hurt just to see him eat.) He suffers mostly urgency and frequency...no real pain like most of women have (pelvic floor, endometriotis, other ugly stuff...) However...He is up and down alot moving people, using alot of physical strength....and often sitting hard on one of those wierd looking chairs that are actually very supportive....however, he said his friends down south get very sore and ache.

Besides dietary help, what else do you folks recommend I give him for advice?

Thanks...Tracey

I know you said he's not really into the net much, but what he really needs is to find out all the usefull information he will need & mabey a better understanding of this illness. Of course I am sure he would ge greatful for any help you can give him, but mabey if you could just get him filmiluar with it & then he has got there when he needs it. You could print of a copy of the patient hand book for him for a starter
good Luck to you both

Since he is not on the net alot, I agree print out some stuff for him. Like the diet and other things. Maybe even a list of treatments and medicine to try. Also maybe he can go to the bookstore or libary and either buy books on IC or check them out. That book my Dr. Moldwin is really good for someone just starting out with IC....

You might also suggest an IC pillow to sit on. They take the pressure off the perineal area without effecting the support of the chair. And I agree that the book, "The Interstitial Cystitis Survival Guide," by Dr. Robert Moldwin is almost a must for any IC patient.

I agree with giving him the book. When I first was d/xed, a few years ago, I got Dr Moldwin's book. I found it to be a great relief to know that all of my symptoms and diseases were connected, and that there were meds and treatments for it. I found it very comforting, and still refer to it often. That book and the ICN are the two best sources out there that I have ever found. Good luck! I hope you can get him to come here.
