Hi friends:
I have been on these board for about 5 years now........

I hope you can guide me in the right direction:

I am 33 years old.
About 5 years ago I thought I had a bladder infection, which it turned out it was not. No infection ever found...just some microscopic blood in urine.

I had a cystoscopy (NO hydrodistenstion) my choice and based on my symptoms my urologist said I probably have IC...........

So I have lived with that diagnosis for 5 years......
I have been on NO medicine, I've done very natural healing things.........yoga, massage therapy etc........it seems to help, and I even think I went into remission for about 6 months and then it returned....

My symptoms are not as bad as some others here........I have the bladder pressure and frequency -it comes and goes. It completely goes away during my menstrual cycle.............which I would like to know why? do you????

My question to you is: If I don't have IC what else could it be?

I just hope that I don't have something else serious and I've been sitting here for 5 years actually with something else...........what scared me the other day was i read that ovarian cancer causes frequent urination..............

But, I do have all the IC classic symptoms, I get flared up on certain foods and drinks etc...........

I guess I'm just terrified that I could have another problem other than IC...........I only had the cystoscopy done .........

Any advice?
thanks

Pretty much all of the female ICers have their IC effected by hormones....some are better during their period...some worse...same as pregnancy. Why? Not sure...one possibility is change...for me I think is connected to how our hormones effect our immune system.
Well, the diagnosis of IC is pretty much a diagnosis of symptoms and exclussion. IF you react to certain foods and you know it that is pretty much like having a potassium test one of the diagnostic tools of IC. Lots of other things cause frequent urination.....you say you have bladder pressure...what exactly do you mean by that??? Does it hurt when you push on your bladder? Do you always feel like you have to go??

Some things that cause frequent urination: overactive bladder, urinary infections, diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, gonorrhea, low potassium, pelvic inflammatory disease, pelvic floor disfunction and many other things.

My adivise...trust your instincts...if you doubt your IC diagnosis tell your symptoms to a different doctor and get a second opinion.

Wow your lucky that you do not flare up really bad during your periods. My IC seems to become really really bad during my periods. I wish you the best of luck. :)

Mine seemed to get better during my cycle... then I had a hysterectomy. I don't get much relief now. When I had my Cystoscopy, there were no signs of ulcers in my bladder and no blood in my urine. I almost always have the feeling like I have to go! Good luck. ;)

That sounds alot like me. I am 34 and started getting symptoms at about 29 after a bladder infection. I too have problems with frequent urination and i am only in alot of pain if i drink something i am not supposed too. I just think we all have different ic problems and no one person has exactly the same symptoms all the time. Some have pain all the time and some more problems with frequency/urgency. It is a really weird disease!! :loco:
