I am having the potassuim senstivity test next friday done. My gyn said it is the only way I can get started on elmiron and that is the only med that will help me. I am freaking out everyone.

I am glad you were able to get it done soon so that you can get started on the Elmiron. Just think of it as one step closer to getting a chance at treatment that can be very beneficial. I will be thinking of you.

I have had the potassium sensitivity test done but had tried Elmiron way before the test. Why is your uro saying test needs to be done first and that Elmiron only drug to help. Just trying to understand. I am sure he has his reasonings.

Not my uro my gyn. I am still very upset about it. I know this test is going to send me into the flare. she is only doing the test because my hmo is making her. Yes it is my hmo because I talked to them myself. She said in her opinion Elmiron is the only drug that will help me.

Sorry they are making you jump through hoops to get a med that can help you. I havent had that test done, just remember if you start to have discomfort from the potassium, immediately tell them, they will put in something to stop the discomfort as soon as you tell em. Good luck.

I am so convinced my hmo is trying to killing me . I am thinking of switching insurances next may I can't take much more. I am so stressed out I know it is making my pain level worse. I know I will react to this procedure because I react severely to gatorade and flavored water with severe burning pain in my bladder. I am on vicodin for my pain my pain doc refilled my vicodin with 3 refills should I ask my gyn for extra vicodin to get me through thos or something stronger for pain?

When they do this test, they will instill the potassium solution into your bladder. If it causes pain, they will immediately drain it out and replace it with a surface anesthetic solution that will calm the pain within minutes.
And you will have a diagnosis.
