Elavil dosage..

I tried 25 mgs of Elavil..I thought it increased my frequency so I stopped. But then I am still having the increase and I am not on Elavil. Anyway I was wondering what amount everyone takes. 25 mg did not knock me out..should I take 50mg? Thanks

does anyone know the lowest doseage of elavil that they have in pill form?
if i start it, i want to take the lowest..
they say not to break the pill in half , right?
does it ever upset the tummy?

My Uro started me on 25mg. At 2 weeks he had me bump up to 50, then wanted me to go to 75mg after another two weeks. Upon reaching 50mg I was way too groggy the following morning. I've heard some say this goes away once your body adjusts to it- my body never did. So I said I'd prefer to just stay at 25 and my Uro agreed.

I'm not sure, but I don't think it's supposed to "knock you out", although it can linger into the morning hours. I believe I've read it interrupts the pain signal in some manner.

If you feel it's not helping there's nothing wrong with discussing with your doctor whether an increase might be beneficial.

Edited to add that at my last prescription refill my pharmacist gave me 50mg tablets. I have been breaking them in half. Is that not a good thing to do?

I started on 10 mg then bumped up to 25 now I am on 50 mg. I have nerve damage that I use it for besides the Ic.

My husband takes 10 mg for arthritis pain --- and I have heard of people taking 5 mg so I imagine it must come in that dosage.

I believe 10mg is the lowest. For those just starting Elavil I would suggest 10mg.
Since you did ok at 25mg you could go up to 50mg. It seems like most of us are taking 50mg but some go to 75mg.
There is no problem with splitting them in half. Not easy to do though because it is such a small pill. You probably would not be taking the same amount if they were split because you can't always get it split exactly in half.

I'm taking 25 mg -- have been for two years with no need to bump up the dosage. Sometimes it makes me a little groggy in the morning (I take it before I go to bed) but it wears off. It's helped my IC and VV pain immensely and does seem to help with frequency as well.
