Hi,
Is anyone else taking Cymbalta for pain and incontinence?

My doctor recently switched me to Cymbalta for my pain. I also have endometriosis. Do you take it? I don't know if it's working for me.

I took Cymbalta for about a month & could know longer handle it. I am already depressed & it put me Lower than Low. I cried uncontrollably & just sat & stared into space. I had to stop it for the sake of myself & my family.

I wasn't able to get past the 3rd pill, started to increase my pain but I don't handle oral drugs very well. Many do great on it.

I have just switched from Elavil to Cymbalta. I've only been taking it for a week. I haven't noticed any changes yet, good or bad. I really hope it helps! My docs for my IC and Fibro both recommended it.

I have been taking Cymbalta for about 2 and 1/2 weeks and I think it is actually working. My pain level has decreased. There is one draw back and that is that I dont like the sexual side effects.

I have been taking cymbalta for about 2 months and even though I went through a very rough period, I do think that it may be working. At one time, I was on 3 antidepressants. My uro took me off of 1 (Elavil) and I took myself off of another (Wellbuttrin). I have my good days (or hours!) and my really bad days. But I do think cymbalta has helped. I also have a co-worker on it for Fibro and she has noticed a huge difference. She has been on it now for about a month. I hope it helps you! We all deserve a few days of comfort!

Best of luck!

Sandy

Yes, I have noticed a better mood/feeling. Except on those really bad days when the pain and just the disease just kicks you in the butt. But I do notice and so does my husband! :woohoo:

How long did it take to notice a mood change? I have only taken 4 doses and seem to have a better mood. My husband is thrilled, but I have done this before on other antidepressants then I crash at about 3 weeks.

It has been about 3 maybe 4 months. I take 120mg at night. Not sure of your dose but I started at 60mg and then was told to gradually increase to 120mg. I hope it continues to help you.

I have a question for all you Cymbalta users. Ever since I switched from Elavil to Cymbalta I have had trouble sleeping. My doctor suggested taking the Cymbalta in the morning instead of at night, because it sometimes revs you up making it hard to sleep. Do any of you take Cymbalta in the morning? Do any that take it at night have trouble sleeping with it? I am so confused with all these meds!! :dizzy: Some you have to take at night, some in the morning, some midday - some with food, some on an empty stomach - it is enough to drive you crazy!! :bonk:

Thanks for the help!

I took it in the morning for the 3 days I tried it. I couldn't feel any effects from it at all but as with most drugs, my bladder couldn't tolerate it but as for how I felt, never even knew I had taken anything.

JenG ---- I take cymblata twice a day, 1 in the morning and 1 about 5 pm. I was warned it could cause insomnia so I avoid it later than 5. I am taking it primarily for depression, and boy is it working!!! I'm taking a total of 60mgs and was told it will probably have to be adjusticed. I also take 20mgs of ritalin per day for extreme fatigue. The cymbata has done more to ease my fatuge than the retalin. Med's affect everyone differently, so the affects may be totally the opposite for you. Good Luck!!!!!

I have been taking Cymbalta for a month now and it has really helped my pain and my depression. I was on Paxil for 15 years. I have a very severe case of IC and nothing has ever worked until now. I am so thrilled that my doctor put me on this.

As for being able to tolerate this medication my doctor slowly took me off Paxil and put me on Cymbalta. I started out with my normal 60mgs of Paxil with 30mgs of Cymbalta added for 2 weeks. Then I went to 30mgs of Paxil and 30mgs of Cymbalta for 2 weeks. I then switched totally to 60mgs of Cymbalta.

I have had some side effects. I started this at night and was having insomnia and nightmares. I now take it in the morning and I sleep better and no nightmares. I do dream a lot though. I had nausea and headaches at first but that has gotten better.

I strongly suggest anyone who has IC to at least give this medicine a try. Cymbalta has a pain blocker in it and helps with depression. I have had IC for 16 years and finally I have some relief.

I am considering switching to something other than the Paxil I am taking, due to the sexual side-effects. (Still want to have sex, but um, the "parts" don't want to work correctly) What types of sexual side effects comes with the Cymbalta??

Hugs,
Tracey :)

I have had my Elavil bumped up from 25 to 50 mg and I feel no difference. I have pain every day. I've recently been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes with neuropathy and I was offered Cymbalta if the Elavil doesn't help. I'm not sure what to do.

I switched over from 10 mg of Elavil to Cymbalta (40 mg) . I wanted to try something new to counter the 20 lbs I've gained on the Elavil.

Well, it was a BIG mistake for me. I had a terrible flare for days. The worst I'd had in 2 years since beginning the Elavil. I'd been reasonably stable on the Elavil which I take with 10 mg of Ditropan XL.

Wow, Cymbalta really hurt my bladder. So, I'm back to Elavil with a few extra pounds <sigh>

I have been on as many as 16 meds at one time. I started on Cymbalta about 4 months ago. I really didnt notice any differance until I had taken it for at least a month. But I actually think that it has helped more with my pain than anything else I have taken in the last 2 years. Granted I have so much pain and other symptoms that it could be a coincidence, but I don't think so. I am glad that I tried it. :woohoo:

I am sooo sorry I have not replied. I have been really sick. I don't think i was on Cymbalta long enough to notice any sexual side effects. I think Paxil is really bad about causing people to just not be interested at all. It is like that for me but it is the only thing that works for my deppression. I just do it anyway. Sounds sad, Huh! Paxil (generic) is now back on the market though. Thanks for the IM.

I have been taking Cymbalta for almost a year now. I have found that it helps me a whole lot. It helps block the pain that I have on a daily basis. I take 2 pills a day 1 in the morning and 1 in the evening.

I highly recommend that anyone who has IC should at least give it a try. I do know there are some who can't take this because it can put you in a depressed mood constantly, and others who have severe stomache upset with it. But for me it has been my lifesaver along with my other meds, I now have a little better quality to life.

I just started on Cymbalta and have some reservations, but thanks to all of you, I am not afraid to at least give it a try! Everyone on this site is wonderful and so helpful. I don't know where I would have been without all of you. Happy Holidays!!

My Dr. put me on Cymbalta and my other Dr. put me on elavil but when the two meds were mixed I had a horrible night of side effects or allergic reactions. I was on cymbalta for depression and elavil for ic. Has anyone had any reactions like that?
