Hi. I'm currently waiting for my daughter's cystoscopy-hydrodistention procedure scheduled for mid-July. I don't see anything on the site, except this board, that addresses children with IC. Am I missing something or is there another place where I can find this information?
Thanks. :hmm:

There are few posts addressing it..... I say HURRAY for Drs finally seeing that IC is NOT just a disease for middle-aged women, like they once thought! You came to the right place for info...ALL kinds! I hope you find what you're looking for....go to Message Boards and scroll down ...you'll find lots of interesting reading here! Good luck.

I'm so sorry your little one may have IC. You'll want to read the information in the Patient Handbook at http://www.ic-network.com/handbook --- the diet information there can be a valuable tool.

I pray that she does not have it but if she does I think it is great that she will know early in life. So many of us had unnecessary surgeries or procedures because we did not know what we were dealing with.
Please let us know.

Oh how i feel so sorry for her. Yes children can get IC. We still think my 12 year old son may have it but no test has been done yet to prove it.
I do have some information about male children having IC but nothing on a female child but do think that most would be the same diet wise and medicine just in smalller doses.
Please contact Jill she is very helpful and knows a lot about treatments with IC and chidlren with the disease i reach out to her when we expected my son having it jill@ic-network.com.
sending hugs and prayers

Hi there :hi:
If your daughter does have IC (though I really hope not!), you may be interested in a Coloring Book that the ICN has made to teach children about IC: http://www.ic-network.com/coloringbook/
It's written from a perspective of a child who is explaining their mother's IC, but it could also be used to explain a your daughter's own health condition to her. You could try reading the book to her and then talking about it.
Keep us updated on your daughter!

I'm so sorry about your daughter. You are a wonderful mother for getting her the care she needs and educating yourself about this condition. As a mother myself, I know it's terribly difficult to see your kids suffer. Make sure you start her on an ic friendly diet...no soda, chocolate, etc. That is something you can do immediately. Also, there are some people on this site that developed IC as children. I'm sure that can provide information for you as well.

My six year old son, while not IC, does have a problem with disfunctional voiding. He has an overactive bladder and because he was trying so hard to hold his urine in he actually overdeveloped his bladder muscles, which reduced his capacity and caused even more spasms. Poor kid. He's taking detrol and oxybutnin and does fine most of the time, but still has occational accidents during the day. It's emotionally hard for a six year old!

He sees a urologist at Boston Children's. I just bought him a vibrating watch to remind him to go to the bathroom--after years of trying to hold it in his brain just doesn't understand his bladder signals anymore. He'll also be starting biofeedback this winter (when they have their new biofeedback department up and running). The results of biofeedback look promising.

Good luck.

I'm conveinced that I started have IC symptoms around the age of four. I've always had problems with the bathroom. 11 years later, I'm finally dignoised. I'm hoping that your daughter doesn't have IC, but (yes, this would be the sliver lining) if she does, be thankful you've caught it early and you know how to control it.
