I am going in for a Cystoscopy & Hydrodistention tommorrow, they will also be checking out my kidneys and doing internal xrays of my kidneys. Anyway, I was wondering what the recovery time is going to be like? I know that it is an outpatient surgery but, I am just curious about how I will feel when I go home.

Thanks in advance for any help!!!

I was in the hospital for about 4 hours after having the cysto & hydro.

I was discharged after about 3 hours. With the c/h, my recovery time has been about 3-4 days. Watch for signs and symptoms of infection, or make sure the doc sends you home with antibiotics. I developed a severe kidney infection after my c/h on May 27th, and I am not trying to worry you--just pay attention to your body. Where is Canton? I am coming to Georgia next month to see my brother. Just curious.

Hugs,

Canton is about 40 minutes north of Atlanta. Thanks again for the advice.

I had the cysto/hydro done, as well as the radioactive dye examination of my kidneys some years back. I ended up being there overnight because my surgeon found a urethral stricture that needed to be corrected, so I'm probably not the best person to ask regarding recovery time or pain! Hoo boy! Do I have a story to go along with that! It's funny now that I can look back on it with considerable distance... My recovery was significantly longer because of the unexpected surgery (don't worry -- congenital urethral strictures are very rare!) but I seem to recall being able to get out of the house and shuffle along in Target with my ex-husband a couple of days after coming home. So even though I was uncomfortable, it was manageable (either that, or my cabin fever was worse than the discomfort!)

As Barb says, make sure the uro gives you an antibiotic to ensure you won't get an infection. Most likely the uro will also give you something to help with the pain too. I'm sure you'll be doing well after a few days, and the hydro often provides IC patients with relief from their symptoms for a while.

Is your uro in Canton, or do you have to go to Atlanta? Good luck with everything!!
