Hello,

I am 32 years old and was just diagnosed last week. I am scheduled for bladder instillations for the next twoweeks, 3 time a week. I also just started taking Elmiron and Detral LA as well as the little orange pills (the one that make your urine that same color). Does anyone have any idea why I would start such gun-ho approach.

Any information would help!

Thanks!

Don't know how bad your symptoms are but sounds like you have a doctor that is taking you seriously. And that could be a very good thing to have, many patients try for years to find one of those. Hope it helps quickly.

Hello and :welcome:

The Elmiron can take quite a long time to take effect...some say 6 months to 1 year.
The Detrol will help with bladder spasms and urgency.
The orange pills are an analgesic that will help with bladder pain.
The bladder instills can help relieve bladder pain and help heal your bladder.
These meds/treatments are not so unusual. Many of us have started off with most if not all in the beginning.

I have to agree that it does sound like your doctor is willing to take action to help you feel better.

My doctor's (when I finally found one who would listen to me!) course of action was very similar. He had me do the potassium sensitivity test at my first appt. to get the final dx- which he was already pretty sure of. I had my first bladder instill that day. I also started on Elmiron then. He also gave me Pyridium (the orange pills.) I had instills two times a week until I had 8 total. He probably would have given me a bladder spasm med also (Detrol LA,) but I had already tried a bunch of them, and they didn't help me. I also take Hydroxyzine and Percocet, but they are from my pain mgt. dr.

I think that it is great that your dr. has you on an aggressive treatment plan so soon! Mine said that the instills would help tame the bladder faster while waiting for the Elmiron to "kick in." Good luck!!

I am newly diagnosed and am not sure why but since I started the whole treatment, I have had leg pain in the back of my legs. It feels like I have pulled muscles in both legs starting right below my butt going to right above my knees.

Does anyone else have this problem?
