Is anyone taking this?
I tried Elavil for a couple days but felt extremely drowsy during the day. Just wondering if anyone takes Trazodone? I'm only taking 25mg to help sleep. Please write back...thanks...

its been great so far, i've been on it for 5 nights and the first night i stayed up the entire night. since then i've slept from 9-3am and i was able to go back to bed till 5 (i work early)...I like it. The Elavil made me too drowsy in the morning, and i heard a lot of stories about gaining LOTS of weight. How long did u take it for?
Hi I was on Elavil for years but I was worried about taking it long term, pluss I gained 40 lbs. :headbang:
I came off it last year andnow I take Trazadone. I have 150mg tablets. It says to take 1/3 to a whole tablet. I started out taking 1/3 , now I take 1/2 or a whole and I sleep great. The whole piill will make me feel a little groggy for a short time and it is gone. I love it as it works quick and I know I will get some sleep
good luck with it :)

Is trazodone in the same family as Elavil? ...or something else?

Hi, Trazodone is a non-tricyclic antidepressant and elavil is a tricyclic antidepressant.
Elavil is one of the older antidepressants that has more side effects and may causes weight gain because it may increase appetite and may decrease metabolism. I haven't had any side effects with trazodone. I take it to help me sleep and it really does help! I think elavil helps reduce pain associated with IC and has been helpful to people with IC. I tried elavil, but was unable to function on it. It's like my system stopped working.

Hi Island Girl.
I took Trazadone a while back, for insomnia. I didn't have any chronic pelvic pain back then. It helped me get to sleep, but sometimes it left me drowsy in the morning. I'm not sure if it's used as a treatment for chronic pain, although most antidepressants have probably used that way at some point or another. Elavil also made extremely drowsy during the day, that was one of the reasons I stopped. I though the sedative effect would go away, but it persisted for months.
I hope you find something that works for you.

Hi I've been on trazadone for 7 years now. I'm down to 25mg a night. I can't live without it for now. It relaxes my bladder and I sleep quite well. It bothers me that I have been on meds so long but whats the alternative. At least I can function. Good Luck.

Jane, I know what you mean about taking meds. It bugs the heck out of me that I can't get away from them. I tried and paid the price. Meanwhile, I thank God that someone out there had the scientific creativity to dream up the meds that have helped so many people.
I took Trazadone many years ago. It was one of the ones I was trying to get off of. Got off of that and ended up with something different. Tried Elavil for awhile and now am with hydroxzine. I'm stil not sleeping really well. Twice this week I was up at least 7 times for bathroom. When I feel like that, I know I need to continue meds.
Blessings.
Maggie

I was given Trazodone yesterday and took it for the first time last night. I was out like a light. But i was still groggy this morning.I am also on Effexor too. They Dr's said it will help with the pain, but this morning i woke up i am still in pain with this cystitis. Feels like i am in labor.Maybe after awhile of taking it, it will help hopefully. Mandy

I take trazodone because it helps me sleep. I don't really see it as a "pain
reliever". I haven't had any side effects, grogginess, etc. with it. Maybe I had a little when I first started taking it, but I can't remember that far back.
I think some people take elavil for a pain reliever. I am unable to take it because I can't function when I'm on it.
Maybe you could talk to your doctor again about pain medication.
I'm sorry you're feeling so bad and hope you feel better very soon.

Oh, Mandy. I'm so sorry you are suffering so. You sound tired of it all. Once you feel better, you'll wonder what was going on during these bad days. Things do improve for the most part. Keep your chin up.
