I'm trying to figure out if this is IC related or maybe just a result of how I'm sitting or something. I've been having lower back pain lately that goes down into my hips even. I was wondering if anyone else has that? I also sometimes have pain in the buttocks. I realize when my bladder is bothering me I tend to tighten those muscles without realizing it. That's probably not a good thing, but it's unconscious...

Anyway, just wondering about the back thing.

I also have hip, back and butt pain. I sometimes even get pain in my rt leg. For years they thought it was syatica. Diagnostic tests proved there was nothing wrong with my back and that my syatic nerve was not being pinched. Since my diagnosis of ic, they are now reconsidering the syatica thing. My physical therapist is convinced it is not my back. She is doing neropbobe on my. She noticed that by bladder points are active but my lower back points are not. She showed me a chart of the bladder points. They start at your left hip go up the left side of your spine , in your left ear, accross the front of your face in your right ear and down the right side of your spine, in your right hip, down your right leg into your right foot. It was very interesting to me. She has been treating some of those points to help with pain management, Its not helping 100% but I do have less back pain.

If this is a new pain, you really should discuss it with your doctor. Many ICers do have low back pain, but back pain is not necessarily IC and new pains always need to be reported.

Part of the deal is that it isn't constant. I just sometimes have it. I tend to notice it in the evening. And it's not very severe even then. Like if I were to rate it on a pain scale of 1 to 10, I think I would only give it about a 2.

I almost think it's more muscular because rubbing my back or hips feels better. I have noticed, though, that there are sometimes "tender" spots in my lower back (like a knotted muscle) and when I "massage" those spots, then I feel it all the way to my bladder.

I'm supposed to go to my family doctor in a few weeks. If it continues to bother me I will bring it up to him. Fortunately, he is very understanding about IC. I don't see my uro again until the end of summer (hopefully - if all goes well).

I do get back, hip and butt pain. My doc and I are sure it has to do with a combination of my IC, PFD, and fibro... but I do know that when I'm flaring, all of those pains get worse, so in my case it does have something to do with the bladder. It's the referred pain issue, basically.

I too get the back pain feels liek a pinched nerve to me, but the docors are telling me no. I have had oinced nerves in the past, and thats what it feels like, my lower back mri showls disc dengerations, herniations, bulges, etc. But no pinched nerve, so I am thinking to it has something to do with my bladder, I get the hip pain too, and sometimes the pain shifts from one side to the other, weird!!

Unfortunately, I get really bad lower back, right hip and butt pain...I have told that these are not unusual IC symptoms. Best of luck! Try heat or cool packs...whichever feels better, and as the other girls said, if these are new symptoms, please check with your doc! :) Sheri G

THanks for all the input. Heat is best for me. I just got a new heating pad a couple of months ago because I wanted one with a timer for nighttime. My old one still works, so I can double-up with one in the back and one in the front if I need to! :)

I'm just getting over a UTI and noticed I had more back pain and stuff during it. I think it's very related to how I'm sitting. I work from home, so for the last few days, I've taken my laptop and sat in the recliner to work. TOday I'm back in my office and my back is fine. I will mention it to my doctor when I go in to see him in a few weeks. Oh the joys of IC.

I get all my pain from my IC in my back too, so I know what you mean...Feels like your being sat on by a large person or heavy feeling at least for me...I guess I have just learned to live with it, though at times it gets too much...Maybe some exercises to strengthen your back muscles and stretch them out would help...Good luck

I've gone to chiropractors who help somewhat. I went to a physical therapist who gave me some gentle exercises to do and they seem to help. During a flare though, the IC kicks in. The physical therapist told me the nerves from the bladder and back are closely related and can effect each other. I would like to do more for my back and explore other options but at this point, I can't afford it.
Much love,

I started getting it every once in awhile just recently. I think it is the ic cause i only get it if i am having a flare.
