Anyone take flax seed oil for health benefits? Any side effects or complications with the IC? I take elmiron 3 capsules a day and am wondering if I can take flax seed oil for some other health issues..if anyone has any experience with it I would be thankful for any advice.

Hi Lori,

I have been taking 2 - 1000mg capsules of flax seed oil a day for a couple of months now. I have not have any bad reactions, and it has not hurt my IC. It has been really helping me with my IBS-D and my arthritis. It is like a "lube job" ;) . Like you, I also take Elmiron (3/day) and it hasn't reacted negatively with the flax seed oil. If you are concerned though, talk to your doctor. Hope it works for you as well!

I also take flax seed daily for general health reasons. I prefer to use either the oil, or to grind up the seeds in a coffee grinder and sprinkle them on food so that I do not have to take yet another pill. In addition, many of the capsules have other added ingredients that can often irritate our bladders.

I take high lignan flaxseed oil -- I put about a tablespoon of it into my smoothies every day.

I also take the high lignan flaxseed oil daily and have for some time now. I think it is great and it helps so many other areas of the body also. I also take a lot of medicines and it has never reacted adversly with any of them. It also has never bothered my IC.
Good luck to you,
Dusty

I am taking flaxseed oil high lingnan, 1-2 tablespoons a day. I take it straight from the spoon, it is cold pressed and raw. I found out about it as an anti inflamatory. I wanted it to help with asthma and it wound up helping the IC, which goes up and down but I do notice a difference. I take other things for IC like anti anxiety med that relaxes my bladder muscles and anti depressant and homeopathic med from a homeopathic practitioner.
