As you all know I am having a terrible time with my diet and flaring! i've been trying really hard to watch what I am eating and drinking (water only). Could salt be making me worse. I've having salt on my food....nothing out of the ordinary..just the normal amount on a piece of meat. So....if I am not having anything else ..besides salad with olive oil....what can be doing this ? I feel like I am burning and my bladder is screaming again. Maybe i should just NOT eat! or.....maybe this falre is soooo bad that everything is botherine me. I'm so stressd over all this............I don't know what to do and feel the anxiety mounting! :cussing:

A moderate amount of salt should be okay. Is there anything in the olive oil? I don't use that one after a bad "taste" experience some years ago.

You might try drinking bottled spring water for a while to see if tap water is a problem.

Donna,

The Olive oil is plain old extra virgin olive oil but noticed that it has a little more bite to it. My hubby noticed that is burns his throat a litte too. sort of like a strong tickle..... hhhmmmmm

I've been drinking lots of Poland Springs water in the small bottles and Crystal Springs in the water cooler at the office.

I am going crazy analyzing everything! could it be that i am in such a flare that I am more senstive to a lot of things right now?
Please tell me this gets better. I am trying soooooooo hard with my diet and have eliminated sooo much. I am afraid to eat!

Mel I know where your coming from. I have been on the diet for 6 days now and it is so frustrating. I read that coconut was ok, so I bought a coconut maccaroon at the health food store. I read the ingredients to make sure that there wasn't anything in it I couldn't eat and I was in an instant flare. Im thinking it was the coconut. I hope you feel better soon :grouphug:

I totally feel for you. this is insane!
I grilled myself a piece of turkey breast this morning to bring for lunch along with some cooked carrots.
I didn't add any of that olive oil and I didn't go into a terrible pain siutation. I am still not right though...but don't think I ever will be. I had some potatoe chips that had sea salt....no problem there either. I'm going to try some salt on my salmon for dinner and see what happens. I think it was the olive oil.....it was kind of strong....it seemed to have a little bite too it! gotta think LIGHT next time.

I was thinking that the macaroon has to have something in it that is irritating you. try regular coconut and see what happens.
I don't think I would be able to tolerate a macaroon right now......seems kind of sweet..who knows what they put in there.
hang in there,

hugs to all of you.........are you sure it is the food? Maybe it is something else that is going on. I kept a calendar and logged everything on it for a couple of months. It sounds cumbersome, but it really wasn't........I put everything I ate, the pain levels, when we had sex, when I had my period, when I exercised etc..........I found that sex, my cycle and exercise were BIG flare bombs...............food is important........don't get me wrong..........I am just wondering if sometimes we blame it on the food and it is something else. HUGGGGGggggggggggsssssssss again

what sort of excersize would flare this Up?
I am not sure why mine started.

Also, could strong mint ice cream cause a flare?
I was in pain 3 hours later.
thanks

have you checked what's in the icecream? sometimes they put soy and a bunch of other stuff in there. soy is a big killer for me and puts me in a flare for days!
you have to be a detective and check everything. also, the words that they use in the ingredient list are not always clear.....so you really have to look hard.
Also, chocolate is know to irritate? did you eat a lot of it?

Olive oil is very acidic. You should take prelief with it.

Thanks Indy,

I found the culprit. It was definately the new Olive Oil that I used. I didn't use it the next day and was ok. they I tried this light one....just a little of it and was also OK. so, it had to be that one particular brand tha both my husband and I noticed was extra potent.
I just came back from a bladder instillation and hope that it will give me some relief for a little while. The urine dip revealed moderate blood. I knew my bladder was pretty irritated.

take care,
mel

Mel,
What brand of olive oil was it? I've been eating some extra virgin olive oil and wasn't sure if it was giving me problems or not.
Hope you feel better soon,
hugs,
janie

I've used olive oil in the past ans seemed to be ok....but...this was a new one that I picked up. it's DeCecco Extra Virgin Olive Oil. it has a definate irritating taste to it....so much so that both my hubby and I found it irritating in out throats at the same time! sort of like a really strong tickle that made you cough..........hhhhmmmm weird huh?
anyway, i'm using a light one now and seem to be ok.
how is sunflower oil? do you have any experience with it. I was thinking of giving it a try.

take care,
mel

I agree that the flaring could be from something else besides food. I am flaring big time now and I don't think it is from food, because I haven't changed a thing. I don't really think my flares come from food, usually stress and sex. Maybe just try to not stress about it and it might get a little better. Hope so!!

salt can cause gas....which can really bother some of us a lot if we have too much of.

I had my bladder instillation today and started to feel better. I actually came home to rest and did nothing besides have some cooked carrots with very little millet. Nothing added to either one. A few hours later the pain started again........really bad. I started to think what it could be. Definately not stress..i relaxed on the couch all afternoon.....not sex...hubby went to hockey....food? the only thing that I could think of was these new candies that I have been snacking on. I didn't think they were food so I must have put them out of my mind but I've been eating them a lot these past few weeks and more so this past week. They are those hard honey candies with the sesame seeds in them. I've also been eating the same type of thing but in a big block form with sesame, sunflower, almonds, honey, corn syrup. I break off a little piece now and then but realized that I've been having them as a snack throughout the day and especially at night.....maybe that is what is doing me in and keeping me up with pounding pain at night. The timing is right.........what else could have done it?
Anyone else have any feedback on nuts and seeds with regard to IC pain? I just had to take an ativan to calm things down.
It seems that I am getting more sensitive!

What exactly are you eating on the IC diet? Can you give me a general list. I know that it is trial and error. I also have the list that's on the website but I am really reading labels these days. I was diagnosed 3 months ago. Thanks

HI Katrtina...........

It's not the candies...they are all natural made with honey and sesame.
I called Dr. Whitmore's office and spoke with the nurse practitioner. She said that the pain coincided with the marcaine from the instillation wearing off. I was making myself crazy tring to figure out what I ate. she recommedended taking pyridium 3 times a day while in this flare. I can't seem to tolerate other meds....but am now starting to get headaches when the pyridium wears off. I am also taking half of an ultracet for the pain in between. I hat the way that i tmakes me feel but the pain is so bad that I put up with it. It also gives me a headache when it wears off. I guessmy body isnot used to taking medications..especially for pain.
I have an appt for another instillation next week and will also be seeing th nurse practitioner to try to figure out what I can take for maintenance.
What are you taking?

If pyridium is a problem for you, you might ask about trying urised.

I couldn't take pyridium, my doctor put me on Urelle.

mela414
06-11-2005, 10:09 AM
what is urelle....i had a problem with urised too..........headaches were even worse.
i think it has hyoscomine in it as an antispasmatic ...and gives me really bad mgiraines.
what is in the urelle.

I just looked up urelle. I dont hink it would be for me. I am intolerant to a lot of the ingredients and am afraid to risk it....especially with my stomach problems.

I'm considering trying an aloe vera product to help me along....of course one without citric acid.

thanks,

Rhonda Rhonda

what product are you thinking of that contains the aloe vera? I have been having migraines lately now I'm wondering if it's due to the urelle??? :hmm:
how long have you had IC?

mela414
06-12-2005, 01:48 AM
Hi rhonda...the urelle has hyoscomine in it...the antispasmatic. I know it givez me headaches because I've tried taking Levsin alone or Levbid alone....both hyoscomine and got terrible migraines/tension headaches that I had to take a fioricet to get rid of them.
then I took urised and prosed (sp?) and they gave me headaches too.....so I checked the ingredients and both had hyoscomine.
I decided to give the pryidium another try and find that i am getting used to it and not gretting that weird feeling from in. I also take an ativan right after it and it seems to calm my bladder down for a few hours. the trick is to NOT let the pyridium wear off because then the pain returns. I am now taking it 3 times a day and my body knows when it is time because the pain slowly starts to creep back. I have to make sure I take it with food. yesterday morning I took it and went back to bed and was nauseous within a half hour. I had to get up to eat something right away.
I hope you have a better day today.

Rhonda Rhonda

Thanks for the info...When I took pryidium I would get really bad diarrhea so I stopped taking it. I just started with the urelle and like I mentioned I am getting really bad miagraines (which I have a tendency to anyway) and feel nauseous, so that's why I mentioned I wondered if it was the urelle. ??? I don't think that I am going to take any urelle for a day or two and see what happens.

Mel: On your picture that you have posted of a dog. Is that a real picture, your dog? What kind of dog is that? Reason why I am asking is it looks like a terrier. We have a silky terrier. :)

Thanks for help!

Rhonda Rhonda

Hi Mel,
Yes, I stopped the urelle. The headaches have come and gone. Got a migraine in the middle so I can't say for sure if it's the urelle. I think that I am going to start it back up again. Wish me luck! :)
