My dr. recommends daily sitz baths in baking soda twice a day. How long should I be sitting in a bath? I've read that sitting too long in the bath water is bad.

Guess I am kind of quoting myself here lol. I put 20 minutes each...but I know if you find you are very sensitive to baths that 15 minutes whole is sometimes all a person can take at once. Normally if you keep the bathtub clean with things that aren't irritating to you and do use the baking soda you should be ok with the direcitons below. Take Care let us know how it goes!

Warm Baths (NOT HOT!!!!) No bubble bath or strong soaps, please! Soft soaps, perfumed soaps, bath salts & bubble baths can be very irritating to an IC patient. However, you can put baking soda in the tub for extra comfort. SITZ Baths Definition: A sitz bath (also called a hip bath) is a type of bath in which only the hips and buttocks are soaked in water or saline solution. Its name comes from the German verb "sitzen," meaning "to sit." I recommend: (a tub divided into two …one half is filled with hot water and the other cold. With part of the body on one side and than switching and back again in quick succession) Recommended 3 times a day for 20 min each

I stay in no longer than 15 min..........I don't time myself, but I can "tell" when I have had enough. (and I use epsom salts, not baking soda....but I think it is the same idea)

I'm usually in for about 15 minutes. Sometimes I've used and oatmeal bath when my skin is really irritated.
