Did anyone's ic start after giving birth? I had a tuff vaginal delivery and this started after two months of giving birth. Also any females out there feel better when they have more discharge? I hate to get on this subject but the days I have more discharge the less of a burning sensation I have. When you guys talk about pain in the bladder are you feeling the pain thru your stomach area. Because I only have a burning feeling on my vaginal anterior wall after urination. I do not pee more then 5 times a day. Usually never at night. Sometimes I can not tell if the burning I am feeling is my vaginal wall or bladder wall.

Good Morning ChristineM, I believe mine was cause by birth of my child but really don't know. I have had IC for 12 years, and I'm 29 years old my son of coarse is 12 and right after having him I started having the syptoms. Well a couple months after. My gyno said that since my son was so big he might of tilted my bladder. Well I would think they could have checked to see if it was tilted. I was very tiny, 98lbs when I first got pregnant and 120lbs when delivered. WONDERFUL DELIVERY, 3 hours. My son was 8lbs, 4oz, 21 inches long. VERY BIG FOR ME. I have always wondered if the birth of my child caused my IC. Sorry I didn't reply to other questions, I have bladder pain 24/7 and go to the bathroom about every 20 minutes. Life is so GREAT:(

I have three children the youngest is 6. I am not sure when my symptoms started exactly. The frequency I always had, but I suffer from syatica so back pain has always been there. The pelvic pain I think I have had for a while, but I have painful periods and history of cysts on my ovaries. I was hit by a car when I was 5 and have had problems off and on with everything since then so I am not sure what caused mine. I dont have the burning in my eurethra normally, so I can't help out there. I can tell you that my pelvic bone feels like it is on fire and the pressure feels like I am delivering a baby again. Good luck and I hope you get your answers.

Christine,
I don't have any biological children but the pain you describe is exactly like my symptoms. My pain like that has improved quite a bit from following the IC diet and from Elmiron. Hope you find something that helps you soon too.

You should try to use the bathroom more- they say teachers and nurses get the most infections because they don't have time to use the bathroom.

I got IC when my DS was 9 months old. Not sure if thats a connection or not as there are other people on here who have had it before they had children. Its a tough one.

My little girl was 4 months when I started having pain. It started with a true UTI and the pain has stayed ever since. I had a c-section too!

I first started having more noticeable symptoms shortly after giving birth to my now 3 yr old. I also experienced some weird things while I was pregnant--during my last ultrasound during my pregnancy, I peed all over the table when the dr pressed near my bladder with the u/s wand. (That was embarrassing!) I didn't think about it being connected at the time, but now I'm pretty sure it was somehow IC-related. But to answer your question, yes, I do believe that somehow my IC was caused by pregnancy! :o(

my doctor said that IC can be caused by having children. and i have two. i dont know why having children could make IC worse or even make you have IC. she also said that over time taking medications can cause you to develop IC. i dont know how true it is. just thought i would let everyone know.

I got IC after a miscarriage and a D&C. I bled for a month after the surgery. I woke up feeling like I had something wrong, I attributed it to being in the stir ups wrong while under anesthesia. My doctor kept telling me that some people just take longer to heal. I believe my IC is related to pelvic surgery.

I am currently in physical therapy for rotated pelvic bones, probably as a result of the same surgery. I just wish Doctors would listen to you. I don't complain well enough. I've learned to be more assertive.

I started having IC symptoms after the birth of my second son. Somewhat difficult delivery in that it was so quick, strong & painful with no drugs. Delivered in 1 hour, had an episiotomy to prevent tearing & immediately started in with bladder problems. So yes, without a doubt, I think it's related to my pregnancy/delivery.

My IC isn't associated with childbirth. I had two c-sections but my last was 12 years ago. I've only had IC symptoms for 3 years. I don't have a problem with frequency very much. Just burning at the end of urination & afterwards and great discomfort in my bladder.

Here it is 3:55 in the morning and i can't sleep because of ic! My ic started when i was pregnant or at least the day of childbirth. When i was about 7 months pregnant i peed every hour to hour 1/2, maybe that is normal for pregnancy, but i never stopped doing that and now it is down to every 5 to 10 minutes! I also have had hemorrhoids for 7 years, don't know if that could've cause my frequency, but that's the only symptoms i have which to me is the worst because i have not yet found anything to stop me from peeing! I've never had any infections that i know of b4 childbirth and i remember cause i've always been a sleeper, i could go 12 hours without waking up to pee! Does anyone know if doctors will prescribe sleeping medicine for ic? if well in my case if i take longer than 10 minutes to fall asleep i am up again peeing! I have taken Tynelol PM for a little while but it gives me headaches and i know it can't be good for me to take permanently until there is a cure for me and my body is getting more immuned to it!

i know that i take a sleeping medication, but to be quite honest with you i still wake up to pee. i am just more groggy. but you are still sleepy or even sleepier when you wake up in the morning since you wake up so much to pee the medication doesnt really get a chance to work its way out of your body. i would talk to you doctor, maybe he/she will have another idea on what you can take. mine actually prescibed a anti depressant that you can take at night that will cause you bladder to relax and it will make it so you dont get that horrible urge to pee. it seems to help, of course nothing makes my symptoms go away totally but it helps. good luck and i hope you get some sleep.
