I have always had bladder problems. I wet to bed until I was 7. I had constant bladder infections when I was pregnant for all three children. Since the birth of my third child I have had times of frequency and pressure and times of severe lower back pain. The lower back pain I thought was because of my scoliosis and syatica. I was hit by a car when I was five and broke all three bone in my right leg and for some reason my right leg decided it was going to grow faster than my left so now I have a leg difference of an inch and have to wear a lift. My pain was getting so bad that I couln't even work my part time job. My ostyopath thought I had a herniated disk, sent me for an MRI wich came back negative. So he figured that my low back pain and the severe burning in the front of my leg was all from my leg differnce, and sent me to physical therapy. I discussed the abdomen and pelvic pain with him and he said that was propbly all in my head. So I talked with my regular dr about it and he thought I was having cyst problems on my ovaries again(had to have surgery when I was 15). So he sent me to my gynocologist who did an ultrasound and found no cysts. I told him all my symptoms and all about my severe painful periods and he told my that he thought I might of IC and wanted me to go see a Urogynocoligist. He also said that the painful periods were a seprate thing and that he thought it might be edometriosis. I went to the urogynocolgist and he said it was definately IC and that I had to go on this special diet and perscribed me 5 different medications. One of wich is Elmiron. I went to go get my perscriptions filled and medicaid refused to pay for two of my scripts. One being the Elmiron, so now I have to get "prior approval". Whatever that means. Feeling frustrated and depressed about this new diagnosis and new "special diet" I went home to tell my husband. He said he would go on the diet with me until he found out what the diet was. But the thought was nice. So unsure of what I could eat with all the NOT ALLOWEDs, I looked towards the internet. I found ICN and here I am.

You definitely came to the right place. The Patient Handbook at http://www.ic-network.com/handbook has some excellent diet information. Your elmiron should be approved soon. If not, then talk to your doctor about filling out the required forms to get it without charge from the drug company. Most drug companies do have programs to help people who can't afford treatments.

Good luck!
