Hello Everyone,

I have not been formally diagnosed with IC, although my nurse pract. (great woman!) and I believe I probably have it. I have had symptoms consistent with IC (significant exacerbating-remitting pain in the lower pelvis and bladder region...sort of a pressure and burning with urgency and some frequency) for about 4-5 years. I recently saw a urologist here in central MA and I wasn't too impressed, she was very gruff, catheterized me without informing me that it would probably hurt (during and after), etc., etc. Just not a good personality match. She was not as informative as I had hoped, and basically gave me 3 pamphlets on IC and told me to look on your website as she thinks I "have elements of this disorder". The website has been great, but I wanted more information from her. Additionally, instead of prescribing any of the meds mentioned on this site (e.g., Elmiron) she put me on 3 months of antibiotic (nitrofuratonin). I do have a history of multiple UTIs, but I have had even more "fake UTIs" with the pain, urgency etc and negative cultures. I am pretty confident it is IC and I would like to begin tx with something like Elmiron (which can take months to work, right?). Anyone with ideas about great urologists, preferably in the central or western MA area? Thank you so much!

Hi there,
I live in Western Mass. I'm going to the Urology group of Western Mass. in Springfield. I believe the doc. I'm seeing is Sharon Guntlow. My appt. isnt' until Aug and I made it in the beginning of June. I have a friend who sees her and recommends no other in the group. Hope this helps!!

Hi...I live in western Mass also, and I have heard very good things about Dr David Kelley, with Pioneer Valley Urology. I wanted to see him, but was only able to get in with his nurse practitioner. She was very nice, tho didn't convince me that she was up on all the newest IC treatments out there. I believe Dr Kelley is listed in the preferred doc list here on the ICN. Best of luck to you. :grouphug: Sheri
