Does diet play a part in pelvic floor pain?
Do the treatments(dsmo ect..) for IC help pelvic floor dysfunction?
Does pelvic floor dysfunction cause horrible bladder pain(the actual bladder)?

Diet does play a part because when I eat something wrong and have a flare up it hurts in my bladder and lower back. When I go for my treatments up to 2 weeks after I can feel some pain in my lower back. I do not know about dsmo's but I would ask my doctor, I know there are alot of people that do use them. I am limited on pelvic floor knowlege but I hope you find your answers

Well, I'm not a uro, but here's my take...

*If you have Pelvic Floor Dysfunction, and ONLY PFD, then diet will not play a part. However, if you have IC AND PFD, then eating foods that are bad for your IC will cause a flare, which will cause more pelvic floor pain.

*Some treatments for IC will also help with PFD. Again, it really matter if you have JUST PFD, or PFD AND IC.

May help with PFD and IC:
-muscle relaxants (Valium, etc)... these will relax the pelvic floor muscles
-pain meds (Percocet, etc)
-Elavil... for pain, also for relaxing effect

May help IC, but not PFD:
-DMSO... it numbs your bladder, not your pelvic floor
-Elmiron... it rebuilds the lining of your bladder, which plays no part in PFD
-diet... diet will not affect PFD, unless there is something also wrong with the bladder

*I'm not really sure about your last question. The pain in the pelvic floor muscles might feel like it's radiating upwards into the bladder, but not actually be in the bladder. Moderate to severe PFD may cause urine retenion, which could result in bladder pain. Or, bladder pain could cause PFD. Do you have a diagnosis of either, or both?
