I have head that Elmiron is very expensive. Is this true? If so, how much should I expect to pay for it?
Thanks!

I pay $218 for 90 pills. I do have health insurance that does not pay for Elmiron. Next month is open enrollment for benefits, so I am changing health plans.

Yes...I think in the three categories of meds my insurence has Elmiron in the highest...or close too. It made such a huge difference though...I don't even want to think about where I would be without it.

My insurance pays for Elmiron, so I pay about $20 a month for it... but if you do not have insurance it is very expensive!

I have insurance. For one month, without insurance, I would have to pay close to $320. With insurance, I pay $120 a month. I cheat and try not to take it as often.... I have my first apt. since my hydro (April 14) and I'm sure my uro will shake her finger at me...

My Elmiron is not covered by insurance. I pay $230.00 for 100 capsules.
Some do order from Canada and get it for much less.

I was on Elmiron for 5 years and my insurance paid for it. Now that my new insurance does not cover IC I no longer get it. Too expensive. However, I did call my urologist and ask for some so that I can do at home instillation with Elmiron and lidocaine. Has anyone out there done this before. I use to, but stopped, but now I am desperate for pain relief.
It's one of the more expensive meds, I pay $35 for 100 pills. I thought that was high until I just read what everyone else pays!

I pay $75.00 for 3 months ($25.00/mo) without my insurance, I think it would be around $240.00, I hate to think about that, as I pay enough as it is with all the other medicines that I take.

I have medical insurance - a PPO!!!!! - and I STILL pay $100 for a 45-day supply. I called my insurance company to complain about it, and was told that the problem is it's a relatively new drug - when the patent expires on Elmiron generics will be available and it will be much cheaper. But I have no idea when the patent expires - someone told me that medical patents last 7 years - but Elmiron has been available for longer than 7 years hasn't it? And then that person told me that drug companies can sometimes renew patents. Anyhow, it's seriously expensive.

I take 100 MGs three times a day and without insurance it would be 250 dollars a month.

With insurance, I pay about $26 for a 30 day supply (200 mg per day.) Believe me, I was glad when my condition stabilized to the point that my uro cut the dosage in half (it was a $50 co-pay each month.) If I didn't have insurance, taking Elmiron would be financially impossible.

Is Elmiron even worth it? I wsa still in horrible pain after taking it for years. The success rate is only 40%. For such expensive med that's a low ratio.

Unfortunately Elmiron is expensive. I used to pay $90 for 90 pills. Now my insurance covers it.

I have been doing the Treatments of Elmiron. I have to go the the Dr once aweek for the 1st 4 weeks to see if the Elmiron is working or not.
For 1 Treatment once a week is $103.05 but with the insurance all I have to pay is $8.92. But Man if I didn't have insurance in a month ( 4 weeks ) it would be $412.20
CRAZY!!!!

Marcy,
Elmiron is worth it to me. Thanks to that and Elavil, I have my quality of life back. Granted, I know it does not work for everyone, but for those it does, it is definitely worth it.

I have insurance and I pay 30 dollars for a month's supply. I get Elmiron at Sam's Club and it would cost $214.88 for a months' supply (90 capsules) if I didn't have insurance.

I believe the length of time for a patent on a drug is 17 years. So there's a long time to go for Elmiron.

I am a newly diagnosed IC patient and I went to get my first prescription for Elmiron this past week. I chose to go to the Sam's Club Pharmacy (you don't have to be a member to go into Sams to the pharmacy department) because in Macon, GA it seems to be the cheapest in town. They told me the cost would be 221.00 for 90 pills. I have a TogetherRX prescription card, that I highly recommend everyone apply for. The Together RX made my prescription cost 154.00. This is a huge savings for me because I don't have any insurance. Please go to www.togetherrx.com and enroll online, it's worth the extra savings. If anyone knows any other way they have saved on this particular prescription or any particular place they could get more savings please let me know I'm willing to try anything next month.

I am hoping to be on Elmiron soon my gyn prescribed it to me on Friday and I am still waiting to hear from my insurance company. They don't cover it. I don't have the $218 for the script looks like I will just suffer if they turn it down. Please pray for me that my insurance covers it.

I have a PPO.
I found that if I order my Elmiron through my insurance by mail it costs me $45 for 270 pills (three months worth) if I do not order from mail and just get it at the pharmacy it is $80 with my ins for ONE month (90 pills)

I do have prescription coverage, and I pay $40 for a 3 month supply.( I take 100 mg caps, 3 times a day.) 3 months, 270 caps. I just got it refilled, and noticed the retail price of $531.75.
WHOA---thanks goodness for insurance.
Getting it through the mail also saves me an extra $20.
Usually my co-pay is $20 per prescription. So $60 for 3 months.
I know if it weren't for my insurance, I would NOT be on this drug.
Who could afford that??????
Wishing you all pain free days..... :)
