Hi, my IC began soon after I had a tubal ligation in 1988. I can almost remember to the day that I woke up needing to urinate a few months after the procedure and it was morning, had planned to go back to sleep, and after almost going back to sleep, had to go again. It kept up like this until 3 years later, I was in an exhausted state. I had insurance at the time because my kids were little and we were poor enough to have state insurance. My doctor put me in the hospital and gave me Xanax and found that I also had a mitral valve prolapse and gave me tenormin. Well, this relaxed my bladder some, and I was finally able to sleep. Unfortunately it didn't last. She referred me to a Uro and he gave me the works. I had a DMSO wash, a cystoscope, he enlarged my bladder and even lasered me a new urethral opening cause the old one was just about shut from irritation and swelling over the years.
And this worked up until this past march. I would say it was over a decade ago that he did this. Then it started all over again. But this time, I am broke, just going thru a divorce and so I decided to go to a chiropractor that also did acupunture. I went 3 times a week at first getting instant relief afterwards, he gave me supplements to take and now I am down to once a week visit. Flare ups are still a bother. I had a regular checkup the other day for my mitral valve and I told my doctor about the overactive bladder problem and she gave me Detrol LA. It has basically put me in a antihistamine state of mind, things are fuzzy and I feel weak at times. But it has only been a week since I started taking it. I have posted some threads about castor oil packs and cold packs on this site. I have found some wonderful tips about diet here. I will die for a certainty without coffee, so I am going to buy some of the Pero decaf, darn it anyways. I will not give up, I will not concede to a life of misery bcause of this. I have done my Kegals faithfully, even bought a kegalmaster for more resistance for a super strong pelvic floor. Works wonders for a great sex life. But not for flare ups. I also do yoga for relaxation.
I am 41 years old by the way. I may add a pic of myself when I finally get some decent sleep and don't look like a zombie. I hope to make some friends here and swap tips. And from what I have read, this is an amazing place to visit and relax and laugh, and cry. I am so happy I am not alone.

I'm glad the chiroprater treatments brought you some relief. What is a kegalmaster and how did it help your sex life but not flares?

A kegalmaster is a device that uses resistance rather than just one's own strength. You can look it up at mykm.com I don't want to seem to promote anything, it makes your vaginal walls strengthen really tight so as to keep your bladder where it belongs. It bothers me during a flare up to use it, so I don't when it is happening. I guess I have just found that out thru trial and error. It seems to make the contractions that I do during the exercising while I have a flare up just worse. But I also found that doing just regular kegals has the same effect. I had wondeful results in trying the castor oil pack then follow that up with a 20 minute cold pack, I slept, 4 hours! I felt like a new woman, well, until I got tired again..lol.. Thank you for answering my post and reading my bio. I am so excited about this site. take care. katya_35
