Connecting Nerves to Inflammation

Inflammation is characterized by redness, swelling, and pain—as you might see with an infected wound, for example. Neurogenic inflammation also causes pain, redness and swelling. However, neurogenic inflammation, she explains, is an inflammation that gets started when sensory nerves cause tissues to become inflamed. Something—known or unknown—causes the sensory nerve endings in the tissue to secrete chemicals called neurotransmitters. These neurotransmitters start processes in the tissue that result in inflammation and, at the same time, send information through the central nervous system that allows someone to feel pain. "A good example," she says, "is inflammation of the tongue caused by eating a hot pepper. A natural biochemical in the hot pepper causes the sensory nerves of the tongue to secrete neurotransmitters, and the result is that your tongue 'burns'—it's inflamed."

neurogenic bladder
This is the condition of abnormal bladder function due to a lesion in the spinal nerve. There are two major types of neurogenic bladder: spastic neurogenic bladder: the lesion is above the spinal cord center of (S2-4), therefore it is an upper motor neuron problem. It is characterized by hypertonic bladder; reduction of bladder capacity; presence of residual urine in the bladder. flaccid neurogenic bladder: the lesion involves the spinal cord center of (S2-4), it is an lower motor neuron problem. It is characterized by hypotonic bladder, the bladder is flaccid with low flow rates and there is a large volume of residual urine.

My guess is yes at this time. So far I see a lot of informaiton on the ICN and ICA that mentions Neurogenic bladder and seems to refer to it as a separate condtion that may be related to IC

I very sorry you have theese condidtions. I sure hope you get the treatment you need. :grouphug:

Yes, you can have both. I do.

Katrina, thanks for that info about the lesions on the spinal nerve. I had never heard of that before (which is odd, considering the hours of research I've done.)

Hello thanks for the response I never came across of anyone that had both like I do.
