Hi everyone! :woohoo:
I've been wondering if someone would like to help me start (or pitch an idea to ICN) for a Teen IC website. I would want it to have school friendly snacks, help with the embarassment of the frequent bathroom breaks, and ways to deal with events like prom or school dances or even first dates!
Is anyone interested?
If not, any ideas to help with it?

That's a great idea! If only I would have had support like that back in the 70's when I was in JR-SR high...I thought I was crazy...I peed between every class, as soon as I got to school, before I caught the bus home, before AND after lunch.....geeze...

Sure, I'll help. I'm 16, by the way.
As always, I should mention that I don't have an IC diagnosis, or any other diagnosis, but I do have the symptoms of urgency, frequency, and pain. I have had these symptoms since August of last year.
Maybe you could interview me for your site, teen to teen?
Can you think of anything else I could do to help?
I think this is a great idea to reach out to teens.
P.S. Imustpee, that's exactly what I do at school! :lmao:

thanks green! I'm going to be up in michigan this summer and I'll have a LOT of spare time on my hands.. so I think I'll try to do some rough work on a website and when I come back in august I should have quite a bit of material.

Ahhh I do not miss high school with IC. There were times where the teachers wouldn't let me go to the bathroom during class...I had to get a note! (Though they didn't know it was IC back then...yeesh I feel old..."back then"? LOL) I'm 23, and my IC got super bad when I was 16.
It was so hard to give up caffeine (that was suggested to me after the 8000000000000000000000000000000000000000 visit to the doctor for what I thought was a UTI) because you get up early in the morning after a night of going to the bathroom all night long, and then go to school and sit through classes that aren't so fun. My senior year I ended up incorporating caffeine back into my diet so that I could balance school and my two jobs--ugh!
And proms...yeah...my boyfriend (now my husband) was understanding at least--but how do you look cool dashing across the dance floor towards the bathroom? ;)

Sasha,
I think your goals are worthy, I wish there had ben more information here and I don't know anything about this.
I might suggest you contact Jill directly either by phone, PM or email to find out exactly what stage this might be in and how you might be involved. She may be happy to have a teen on board with a committed interest.
Just my opinion...I think it's a great idea. I often think there should be an age appropriate place for teens to sign in, as so much here can relate to parts of our lives that younger teens aren't really in need of.
Not to say it's an exclusive club here, but it would be nice to just gather in a place where there is a moderator and the topics pertain to experiences tailores to the 12-18 crowd, just to pick a group.
Good luck, I hope it is launched somehow! I have raised two teen girls, so know the challenges are always there despite the reasons! :)

I think it would be a good idea to start something like that. One thing that helps me a lot is that I dont care what other people think of me so it doesnt matter how many times i go out of class, the problem is going and coming so many times, you get behind so easily. I think Im going to start home schooling soon though.

K-lee,
If you have to use the bathroom many times throughout the class, maybe you can ask your teacher if you can just leave when you need to and not have to ask for a hall pass each time, that way you can leave when you need to. Maybe you can sit near the door so you can just slip out quickly without disrupting the class. If you are afraid you are missing notes, maybe you can have a friend take notes for you. Or maybe you can ask the teacher if you can place a tape recorder near him/her so when you leave you won’t miss anything that was said. You could ask to tape record all of your classes. If your teacher uses his/her own notes or overhead notes, maybe you can ask if a copy of those notes could be made for you to take. You could do all of these things to cover all the bases for your notes.

In my junior year there was a period of time where I could not walk because I was in so much pain, so I had to be home and off of my feet. I had doctors notes and everything, but one teacher in particular thought I was just being lazy and decided to fail me.
At this point, my parents went into the school and got a conference with all of the teachers involved. They brought doctor's letters and such and all of my teachers were sympathetic and were offering me extentions and extra help to help me catch up. (I missed a LOT of school) That one teacher still did flunk me for the semester, despite the letters and input from the rest of the staff...
My point is that if you are having problems you could get your guidance counselors and doctors involved with the staff to help you catch up. It is so difficult, I know, and I am so sorry you all have to go through this. :grouphug:

Hello,
I am working on a Teen Site for the ICN as my major in college was a BA in Psychology and I worked with teens until I got to sick to work out of the house. My dream was to become a High School Counselor but that dream has ended due to my IC. So I am currently working on this site for teens. Any ideas or suggestions that you would like seen put into action can be sent to my email address at klkreese@twcny.rr.com.
It's on its way, just in rough form at the moment and in the idea stages.
Thank You, :)
