Yes I said it...Instant relief. I have had IC about 10 years. I have been on Elmiron about 8 years and doing very well. No problem with any foods. Started on 100mg 3x per day. Down to 2x per day through the years. Turns out my first major flare in all these years was caused by using Vagisil Femine Powder (had no clue what I was in for within one week, never knew it was a no-no :headbang: ). Spoke to my uro had me come in and try this treatment. It is a solution of:
Heparin 40,000 units
Sodium Bicarb 8.4% 3cc
xylocaine 2% 8cc
sterile water 5cc
Mixed and instilled in bladder via cath.
By the time I was sitting up I was feeling better. I left the office with solution still in me and did not need to use the restroom for hours. :woohoo: I have had Rimso treatment when I was first diagnosed and I could hardly keep that stuff in for 15 minutes. My uro's nurse (who I have always thouht of as an  ) told me she tested Rimso herself and found it to be very high in acid. She said, "No wonder it hurt so much." She also tested this solution and it has a much lower acid level. She also said they use to use 50cc of Rimso this is like 16cc. The "rescue" consisted of 3 treatments in 3 days. Also we doubled up on the Elmiron 2-100mg/a.m. and 2-100mg/p.m. My  nurse also instilled a small amount of lidocaine in my urethra prior to insterting the cath. She told me to keep her posted as we can always do 3 more treatments if needed. So far so good  She said this treatment also helped one other gal in the office go on vacation with her husband. Sure hope this information may be the answer to someone elses prayers!
