Hi everyone,
I'm new here...

I have noticed that when my bladder is at its flariest, I get pain in the inside part of my bum. It's hard to describe where, exactly, but I'd say it is in the muscles directly adjacent to the anus on both sides. Anyone else get pain here?

Sorry to be graphic, but I'm guessing you're all probably used to having no shame at this point! ;)

Thanks in advance,
Jen

A kind of an ache? Interior feeling? I have had something like that every now and then for many years...long before ic diagnosis. It last a few minutes, maby as long as ten and then just goes away. I don't know if this is what you have but my doc has said it's like a cramp and maby uterine and just feel like it located in the anus.

Sounds like it might be your Sciatica nerve(s) acting up....mine are terrible sometimes!

Hi,
No, it's not temporary. It is a persistant muscle ache which lasts for days. I can "work" the muscle by sitting on my fist.

Hi Yvette,
Sciatica you say? Do you get this pain? What have you found that helps?

Jen: Yep, sounds like sciatica...what a pain (pun intended) ;)
Sounds like you're doing the right thing....stretches can help. I know when I got pelvic floor therapy -- part of the session included massage on my back side...right where the waistband of low-riders would be.

I'd get massaged and it would kind of ache, but feel better all at the same time.
I don't go to PFT anymore, but self massage works....sometimes advil can help alleviate it too. The pain is sometimes realllyyyyy bad and can go up my back and all the way down on the back of my leg...sometimes its less severe...

OH I'm so glad to hear someone else gets this! I get it whenever I flare and can't figure out if it's because of the flare, or maybe if the flare is because of some muscle strain or tension. To me it's in a different location than the sciatic nerve, the sciatic nerve is more in the middle of the buttock, leading to the low back, and this achiness is band of muscle maybe two inches wide that seems to lead from the area right by the anus into the muscles around the vagina, the very inner portion of the inner thigh and buttocks. Maybe someone who's had physical therapy for IC can tell us more about those muscles... Anyhow, I know exactly what you're talking about.

Hi Diane,
Have you found anything that helps? I sometimes put my TENS electrodes there, and it makes the pain in my urethra go away...So I'm thinking they are related in some way. But I did notice that doing it makes those muscle tighten up, so make sure you don't leave the TENS on for too long.

Hi Jen. I don't have a TENS and I mostly do nothing for the ache. A hot bath helps, and I lie in bed at night and massage that area with my hand before I go to sleep. It really does feel like a muscle that's been overused at the gym or something..

Is it possible this is also IBS? my IBS w/const. acts up when I am in a flare causing my rear to hurt also.

Its strange but I get that pain when I am on certain kinds or strengths of medications. :hmm: Anyone else have this happen? I don't have a problem with the consitipation... its definitely a nerve pain. I ended up in the emergency room a couple of times as some of my meds made it so bad I couldn't sit still. I get an intense burning in that area as well. It feels like its in my rectum and sometimes the whole shabang!..... both bum cheeks. :headbang: When I stop the med it goes away, so its greatly reduced my pain med options. Very weird. :loco:

I asked my pain doctor about it and he said he has seen it happen before. That your nerves are already in a fuss and some meds can wack them out. I think its just my fantastic good luck.

Sciatica and rectal pain aren't really the same thing...sciatica as I understand it can be help with therapy. I can't comment on why meds would cause rectal pain, this is the first I've heard of something like that. I would talk to your doctor about that...he/she would prolly know better.

And IBS is altogther something different....that's more do with the colon and rectal area rather than the muscles and nerves that run along hte backside....

I have a broken and displaced tail bone, sacralititis, and 2 prtruding disc's along with the rectal pain.. I have a hole in my back to above the crack ... its a form of spinial bifida.. I spoke to my gp and with the uro, and they said that sometime rectal pain is common with IC. However if it contuies and it is sharp and constiitant to notify them..

I am not sure if you have figured out what is going on but with me...left side only usually endo has caused it and so has my peforated anus when I am constipated. Could you have PFD yes. Both were kind of insde and kind of crampy. They also both were felt more by moving the musscle. Always see a doctor about new symptoms!
