I am very upset, the Dr. did it without any pain meds, or anethesia, told me it's how they are all done, I took up to 512 ccs. All my pain was in the uretha and pelvic area. I was very concerned. Then he said that I didn't have IC but urethra spasms and pain, He is going to put me on 12 days of doxocycline. I am just at a loss as to what to do. I don't believe he could do a office cysto without any monitors, and that saying it's urethra issues only leaves me confused. I need a second opinion I suppose. I am just at a loss....:( :help:

The real way to diagnosis i.c. is when they put you out under anesthesia and do the cysto hydro and expand your bladder. I am pretty sure that is the way it is done.

Thanks Mary, and hope you are doing well today. I have been praying for you to find strength and something joyful about each day so you can hang in there. I think this fella just did a lousy job on this for me today. I think I am going to sleep on this all weekend and contact a Dr. in Akron Ohio about 21 miles from me, and get a second opinion. Have a good evening...we are expecting thundershowers and storms here tonight. Connie

I couldn't believe it when he said that he was going to do a full extension and he did it twice! I thought I was going to throw up. I shouldn't have let them even begin once I realized it was without any meds or knocking me out. I consider that procedure a surgery. I quess they didn't.

I would get a second opinion... doing this without anesthesia is not the way to diagnose IC. You need to have your bladder stretched way beyond what they can do in the office for the signs of IC to be apparent, and it is very rarely seen in office cystos like this one. Yep. Time for Opinion #2. :grouphug: Sorry you had such a bad experience :(

That is one of my pet peeves about everything! From home repairs, to correcting billing errors to Drs....I just dread having to redo a step I did once or twice.....:) I quess I need to get use to this when you have an ailment that is so unknown to mainline Drs. This Clinic in Akron specializes so I am going to do this for sure. I am just peeved.... And Now I need to practice some of that wonderful Reiki to calm myself down and enjoy whats left of this day. I will breathe...I will scream, I will breathe....I will NOT scream to much....

I'm sorry you had such a terrible experience. Unfortunately, bad docs outnumber the good ones when it comes to IC. It's terrible, but you have to try doc after doc after doc before you find a good one.
Maybe someday docs will learn about this disease and give a hoot.
Blessings, Lori

Sooooooooooooo Sorry you had such a bad experience. A true hydrodistention is done in the OR with anesthesia. What a jerk. I agree, get a second opinion. If it makes you feel better....I have been there too-

And I thought my uro was uninformed! I guess I have it good compared to you. At least I was out for my hydro! I didn't have any problems getting the dx but now that thats what I have they don't know what to do for me. I am going to see someone in Seattle (2 hrs away). Hopefully they will be more knowledgable! How can drs who specialize in Urology know so little about this disease? I think its crazy! Thank god for this site. I have more knowledge than my drs.
You need to go see another dr. You probably learned from this and will never let them do it with you awake again! I'm sorry you had to experience that!

Hydrodistention is sometimes called "over-distention" --- and is done in a hospital under anesthesia. What you had sounds more like a cystoscopy without the distention. A cystoscopy will not usually diagnose IC, but will help rule out other problems.
If you don't feel comfortable with your doctor, it's always okay to make a change. And you shouldn't need to repeat tests if you ask the new doctor to get your records.
