Ever since my bladder problems started about 3 months ago, I have been having muscle spasms and pins and needles in my feet. Recently it has gotten lots worse with the pins and needles in my right foot especially. It always feels like it is asleep, and sometimes it goes up to my knee. What is this? Does anyone else have it????

I had this sensation when I tried the drug Topamax for a mood stabilizer/migraine preventative -- my hands and feet had pins and needles in them while I was on the drug, but as soon as I was off the drug, it disappeared. I would discuss the symptom with your doctor, especially if you cannot relate this to any drugs you are taking.

It is the medicine. I had to get off of it, as I was having the same symptoms. As soon as I was off of it, it stop. I would discuss this with your doctor.

I had the same thing happen from lots of different meds. I think the ones that caused this in me were Zonegran, Elavil, and Zanaflex - especially Zanaflex. I would talk to my Dr just to be on the safe side.

Hi Massagedoula,

I had that pins and needle symptoms in my feet and worse in my hands. This was worse in the night when I tried to sleep. I also developed aches and pains in my hands and they tended to be cold. One Dr. told me it was due to poor circulation. He forgot to tell me why I had such poor circulation in my feet and hands. Well years later after being tested for MS and other nerve disorders I was found to have a low thyroid that caused carpal tunnel syndrome. Treatment with thyroid really helped me with this.

Hey, I am originally from Seattle and visit my folks often.

Ask your Dr. and don't let them laugh at you or not give you a diagnosis for whatever is the cause of this. It could be important!

I was thinking massagedoula wasn't on any meds to speak of. ???? If you are, did the sensation start prior to taking them or after?

No, I am not on any meds, just suppliments, but the pins and needles and muscle spasms started around the same time as my bladder problems (3 months ago) maybe 2 weeks afterwards. I did mention it to the last doctor I saw, but it was only 1 foot at that time, and she didn't say much about it. Can you tell me what sort of tests they are giving you, Kelly? I am seeing my local doctor on Monday, and maybe I can ask for them. Are they for circulation or MS or something else? I see the specialist UW university urologists next in the beginning of July, so that is quite awhile away. I don't know if my local doctor would know much about what to test for, etc. So that is why I ask, so I can tell her.

Just remember that if you are taking any herbal remedies, you are taking medications whether they are herbal or prescriptions. I do think it would be a good idea to talk with your doctor --- and be sure to take with you a list of everything you are taking.

Jamie if you are having those pins and needles at night it could be from restless leg syndrome. Anyone having these sinsations like this its best to talk to your doctors and see about getting a referral to a neuro. Those sinsations can be caused from several different types of neuro/muscular diseases and or vascular disorders. My doctors have put me through several different types of test from blood work, sleep test, emg test, and vasular test. They have dx me with severe rls and i have those feelings day and night along with the night time jerking every 6mins. So best is to get to your doctor.

When I was first diagnosed, every time my bladder or urethra spasmed, I immediately felt it in my the soles and balls of my feet. It was weird, and a good foot rub seemed to help calm my bladder/urethra down. I didn't have necessarily the "pins and needles" feel, but it wasn't a typical "on your feet all day" kind of ache, they'd seem to "twinge" whenever my bladder did!!!

Hugs,
Tracey :)
