Hi, I just started working again (I was married for three years and now am divorced) and I think the job is physically hurting me. It is retail so I am on my feet all the time. I am in so much pain and going to the bathroom at least every hour and they are getting mad. Also I was hurting so bad sat night that I started throwing up (I think I had a kidney stone and my IC flare) and they would not let me leave! Finally I was allowed to go 5 min till closing time and they counted it as an abscense! We are supposed to be getting breaks but I am lucky if I even get to take mine because they dont have enought people so they run us all ragged. I am trying to find an office job but no luck yet. I am also going to school to become a teacher and I hope IC doesnt stop me from that too! This is so frusturating!

In Oregon, employers are required to provide breaks for their employees. I hope you're able to find another job very soon. It sounds like the one you have right now is pretty rotten.

Oh hon I am so sorry for your pain. I really believe that it is mandatory that you get breaks. It is not your fault that they are understaffed. You still have been working and deserve your breaks.
I hope you are able to find something soon that is not so much stress for your baldder or feet.
I'm sorry, that sounds pretty miserable. I'm also on my feet most of the day (I am a teacher) - one thing that helped a little was putting extra insoles (DrScholl's) into my shoes to reduce impact to bladder. I really didn't think it would do anything, but it does help.
As far as teaching goes, you do get breaks. I asked for a classroom near a restroom (got a doctor's note for that) & when someone retired, I got her classroom right across from teacher's restroom. You can arrange with a nearby teacher to help each other with extra restroom breaks. (You won't be the only one who occasionally runs out to the restroom).
I also got a tall 3-legged stool for the classroom, so when I'm not walking around, I can "perch" up there & have a pretty good view of the room.
There are a bunch of teachers who have IC & post here. I love being a teacher (this is my 14th year) & hope you will too:)
Hope you feel better soon!

Man, that place sounds like the pits. Federal labor law stipulates breaks. You deserve them.
