hello,
I was wondering how your bladder can improve if the only medication u r taking is for pain control and following the diet. If IC people cannot tolerate elmiron or dsmo than the bladder will just stay the same or get worse wont it? Antidepressents and narcotics wont help the damage that has been done or the inflamation so what happens to the people that r unable to take these drugs? Also how much do people pee at one time and how often???
sorry for all the questions:(

I just had an idea for your. Not sure if I am right though. I used to take celebrex which is anti-inflammatory. I know that medicine is questionable right now but there are others such as mobic all taken orally. Sometimes, urologists can be steroids into your bladder although my urologist does not he puts anti-inflammatories with the rest of the mix in it.
Maybe you can ask the urologist about what I mentioned.
I hope it helps
Hugs

There are treatments out there that help to rebuild the gag layer of the bladder besides Elmiron or dmso. Some treatments are available at the ICN store.

http://www.ic-network.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7562 this link is a pain managment post.
The second page has 4 attachments...the last one is a list of ideas for IC pain.....take a look if pain is problem for you.
Personally instillations such as Heparin treatments are more easily tollerated than DMSO.
If your only treatment is pain treatment and diet following the diet can at least possibily allow your body to heal itself easier. Personally I think you have a lot better chance if you at least try some form of treatment that is meant to help rebuild the gag layer.
Are you asking how much normal people can pee at one time...and how often... or us ICers? Peeing around 7 times a day is normal.
http://www.ic-network.com/handbook/ this is an essential link for everyone with IC. It is very informative on meds, living with IC, and self help....take a look!!!

I think everyone is different - some people seem to get better with only pain treatment and/or diet, or even sometimes with no treatement at all, which sort of implies that their bladders are healing themselves, and some people seem to get better with bladder rebuilders - elmiron, aloe, etc. - which implies that their bladders do not heal so well on their own. I wonder if it has to do with the APF factor that was recently discovered - maybe all of us ICers have varying amounts of anti-proliferative factor in our systems, and those with a very large amount would have a very hard time getting their bladders to heal without some outside "mortar" - while those with lesser amounts of APF may be able to let their bodies rebuild their bladder lining slowly over time while just controlling symptoms. So I don't think the rebuilders are essential for everyone, seems like some people go into remission or control their symptoms really well without using Elmiron or any other bladder coating agent. But I agree with Katrina, for me at least I want to help the process along as much as possible by ingesting something that will heal the bladder lining.
