Just wanted to share our new family member! We adopted a retired Greyhound. He ran 97 races in his career and just retired the 25th of March. His name is Kenya (aka Fore and Aft) and we love him dearly! If you like big dogs who live inside you can't go wrong with a greyhound! We had never had a large dog before and our little Beagle just died with congestive heart failure a couple of months ago so we decided to get a rescue and when we found out the the greyhounds are typically shot or starved when they retire we couldn't pass this guy up. He is a really good boy and has a great temperment. He's awesome!

Congratulations! A beautiful boy! I'm glad to know you decided to go through a rescue shelter. It breaks my heart to see ANY animal abused. If I had a big enough place, I would take them all in. :puppy: :cat:

So so cute!!!!! :) Congrats!!! Greyhounds do make excellent pets. They also make good therapy dogs. When I was working at a children's hospital for critically ill kids, Tuesday was Pet Therapy Day, where the kids (if cleared by their doctor) could come down to the lobby and people would bring their dogs in so the hospitalized kids could have some interaction with animals. We had about 6 greyhounds that came on a regular basis and the kids loved them, and the dogs loved the kids. :) They would even wear little hats and scarves to please the kids, and it was a GREAT program :)

I talked to the greyhound owners and they said they were great dogs; 5 of the 6 that would come in had been rescued -- they were former racing dogs and had retired, and were now living in loving homes :D

HOW SWEET!!! I always wanted to adopt a retired greyhound! I lived in KCK and there was a LOT of greyhouns that REGAP placed. But, I lived in an apartment. So, it wouldn't be right for the dog.

Now, I live on 250 acres in the mountains of AR and could do it, but since I have 4 dogs, my hubby says NO WAY.

Congratulations!
