nothing seems to control my pain and I was wondering if there is such a thing as epidurals for the bladder or is it possible just to cut the nerves in the bladder... ? I am at that low point that I would like to just cut out my bladder myself because I have basically tried all the oral treat ments and I cannot tolerate them for various allergic or side effect reasons so I am trying to think of other options getting rid of the nerves somehow seems like a fine idea to me!

http://www.ic-network.com/handbook/nerve.html Have you tried a TENS unit??

http://www.ic-network.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7562 Since most people new to these boards often don't know of some of the althernative pain treatments I am giving you

You say you have tried all the oral treatments but since you are particularly interested in nerve treatment I ask if you have tried medicines such as Neurontin, Gabitril, Tegretol, or other anticonvulsants??

I have had two different kinds of pain blocks and one epidural. None of them worked for me but thats just me. I seem to be one who cant find that niche yet. It could easily work for others. My pain doctor had no problems trying the blocks but I have tried many other things first (dmso, bladder distention, Instills) including oral medications.

I have been told by my Pain Management doc (an anesthesiologist) that there are really no specific nerve blocks that will work on bladder pain. He says that you affect to many things when you start messing with the nerves that control the bladder. He thinks for me, it is not an option. Hope you find some relief.

Steve you are right. I have the interstim and I have found that the nerves that it connects to also effect my leg ( which ever side the lead is one is the leg it effects) and my toes also. For me it effects my left leg. Also I have heard of people that have had permant nerve damage done from the interstim. So I would agree that the nerves of the bladder also effect other body parts.

My DR. did a S2 Nerve Block on me in 1982. That is where they go in and cut the 2 main nervers to the Bladder to Control Pain. It did not work on Me. So Now I do have a Urostomy.

My uro also talked of this "blocking" procedure but he did does not recomment the procedure. According to him there are so many nerves that they really do not know which nerve to cut thus it is a guessing game and most likely not to be successful.

That was my Doctors first thing to try on me.I have a scare bottom of my back in rear in Location. . It was the 2 main nerves that control Bladder Pain. . They cut them and were hoping to control the Pain. But the Procdure did not work on me. I was then doing sel-cath for a year. before we did some other surgeries before they did my Urostomy. My ostomy was the Last resort.

I had a procedure where he injected a numbing agent and steroid into certain areas in my lower back. It didn't work.

I had three nerve blocks and they seemed to make it worse. I also have tried all meds possible and even tried pain management. Then I had the interstim trial done and it worked miracles. Unfortunately I was not able to have the permanent one put in because we found out that I was pregnant. But as soon as the baby comes and they give me the okay to have the surgery I am going to do it. I hope you feel better.
