There was a doctor on fox news cable program stating that he knows when drug addicts come to his office because they know the name of the pain killer they want.
Well, I know the name of the pain killer I want and it is PERCOCET and I am not a drug addict. My pain mgmt doctor always tells me, let me know what works for you and if it does not we will change it.
YES, I KNOW THE NAME NOT BECAUSE I AM A DRUG ADDICT BUT THAT IS THE NAME OF OF PAIN KILLER THAT WORKS FOR ME. JUST LIKE THE REST OF US THAT KNOWS WHAT WORKS FOR THEM ON THESE BOARDS AND ELSEWHERE.
That was all I had to hear, shut off the t.v. and sent a nasty letter to FOX NEWS. :cussing:
My pain mgmt doctor was appalled as well when I told her

That's one of the reasons it's good to deal with a doctor who knows you.
Unfortunately, it's true that addicts do go to emergency rooms asking for specific pain medications, but that doesn't mean that anyone who asks for a specific medication is an addict --- and any doctor who labels someone an addict for that single reason --- should not be practicing medicine (my opinion!).

This is exactly what I meant by the "stigma" I spoke of recently on another post. How are we EVER going to convince the world that IC pain is REAL?!? I asked the director of our Pain Clinic how many IC patients he had treated, and he looked at me as if I had 2 heads and asked with a smirk, "Cystitis? That's BLADDER...not a PAIN problem..." ooohhhhh...I was SO angry.... I went directly home and wrote a letter to the County Doctors' group here, advising them to check out the posts on this web site!!! I guess all we can do is just keep at it and keep educating the "educated ones", right?

They ( some Dr.'s) must think we're stupid. Of course we remember the name of the pain killer that helps us, DUH! And we're in sad shape if the Director of a pain clinic thinks IC is not painful. Good for you, K9, to write a letter, we have a long way to go.

I've read that some doctor's think that IC should always be called painful bladder syndrome just because some people hear Interstitial Cystitis and think "cystitis" - bladder infection. Maybe at least having the word Painful in the name would give some people a clue about the suffering involved.
