I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to get rid of a yeast infection, that doesn't involve medicine? I get them like all the time. I tried to get an appointment with my gyn..but why does it take sooo long to get in. Does yeast infections move though your body? just wondering...If I had an infection..where would it be in a month, when I get to see my dr. What would you do...I'm getting really tired of doctors, their aren't all bad, but they cost a lot and what not...how can one handle it?

Some on the boards swear by eating yogurt and using boric acid suppositories (found in drug and health food stores).

If you are immunocompromised (weak immune system), then you can get a yeast infection systemically (through the body). I am dealing with this right now. I was on prednisone, a steroid, for a bad asthma attack recently, and that lowers your immune response... and then I was on several antibiotics for different reasons (dental work and a dog bite). Plus I take inhaled steroids for my asthma. I ended up with oral thrush (yeast in mouth and throat) and yeast in the vagina, and started taking Nystatin for it; however, it was resistant to it and seemed to spread and spread. Finally I contacted my uro because I felt so bad and she decided I had a systemic infection, so now I am on a course of Diflucan -- one pill a week for four weeks. Apparently, this is the only way to get rid of this type of yeast.

However, if yours is confined to your vagina, you should be ok.. you can try the boric acid trick others use, or use an over the counter yeast cream suppository from the drugstore if you are sure it is yeast.

You'll know... you will just feel crappy, with sort of flulike symptoms, often a sore throat, achy muscles. Your vaginal yeast infection will also appear much worse... you may see chunks of yeasty discharge on your underwear or in the toilet after urinating.

Some people even put plain yogurt down in the vaginal area... the bacteria in the yogurt can help sometimes.

It can be scary to stick something in your vagina, but actually they have things like Monistat-1 now, where you only have to get up the guts to do it ONE TIME, instead of every day for seven days now. I will tell you that the applicator is very thin, and easy to insert -- and as soon as the cream or suppository is inside it usually feels very soothing.

Can you just call your doctor and ask him/her to call in a prescription for Diflucan? Often, if it's just a simple yeast infection, you only have to take one pill and the infection is gone in 24 hours!

Hmmm... is it long stringy white stuff, or is it well defined white chunks? The well defined white chunks (may look like cottage cheese) can be yeast. If it's longer and stringy, it may just be mucus from your bladder.

My gynecologist told me to try to avoid eating sugar & keep dairy to the minimum. Am hoping that will help, have had more trouble with yeast lately than ever before. Ick.

The viscous, slippery substance that consists chiefly of mucin, water, cells, and inorganic salts and is secreted as a protective lubricant coating by cells and glands of the mucous membranes.

The substance that makes you congested and gives you a stuffy nose when you have a cold.

Girl, everytime I want to get rid of one, I ingest about 2-4 tablespoons of extra virgin organic coconut oil every day for as long asd I need to. It can be taken as is, or mixed into your food, such as in your oatmeal, or smoothies, as a salad dressing (if warmed), topping for steamed veggies, etc. If that does not work, then integrate super strength oil of oregano (5 drops under your tongue). Cut out the carbs, and the sugar. That should do it. Don't confuse the harmful coconut oil with the extra virgin, organic stuff. THERE IS DIFFERENCE!!!

Oh, and I think it is very important to integrate mega doses of probiotic supplement into your diet. There are good supplement brands and bad ones though.
