I am scheduled for the above tests on 4-24-05. Anyone had these tests? I was dx with IC in Oct 04.

I have had the CMG. It wasn't too bad. They had to quite though because I have such a limited bladder capacity, about 150, 250 under hydro. It is just a cath they put in and then start filling your bladder. You tell them when you feel like you need to go, then when you have to go bad and then when you absouletly can't hold it anymore (I didn't get to that point due to pain).
Most people don't have any problems with it.
Let us know how it goes.

Wow only one person on these boards has had a CMG test?
What about the VLLP test?
Maybe people aren't sure what the initials stand for... Til Haysmom described it, I didn't think I'd had it done. I think CMG might be cystometrogram? I had that done. The day we did that, I was in full-blown IC (voiding over 60x per day, really really sick & in pain). I could only hold 200cc of water & my doctor was quite shocked. During the cysto/hydro under anesthesia though, my bladder held 650cc, which my doctor said was within normal range.
What's a VLLP?

I'm also not familiar with either term. Does the CMG mean cystometrogram? If so, it's not bad at all.

Cystometrograms aren't bad .. they are usually done as a part of something called a
urodynamics study. Haysmom described the catheter part perfectly; also, often you will have to pee into this special toilet thing afterwards, and it measures your urine flow rate, whether or not it starts and stops, etc. I have never had these studies done as both my diagnosing urologist and the urologist I have now were convinced I would hurt too much during the test for them to bother with it.
The VLLP test... hmmmm... never heard of that. I'll look it up for you and see if I can come up with any info.

OK, VLLP is also part of standard urodynamics studies. It is called the Valsalva Leak-Point Pressure (hence VLLP) and it measures the intrabdominal pressure at which incontinence occurs. It is a test designed to measure the severity of incontinence. It was originally designed to measure incontinence in men who'd had their prostate removed due to cancer, but has been adapted for use in women. Basically, it measures the strength of the sphincter muscle at the base of your bladder.
I got this basic info by using the search engine "Google" and typing in key words "VLLP urology" but you can modify your own Google search and get other info -- this search generated a lot of scientific abstracts from urology journals, but you might be able to modify it to get more info on how the test is done.

Just got back from my Urodynamics test. My bladder pressures ARE OFF THE CHART (that is the reason I leak so bad). I asked if that was good and they said NO! The woman giving the test said I absolutley have to stay on the diet and stay away from caffine yada yada yada. She said it could be my IC or could be something else. I go see my Uro tommorrow. The tests made my bladder sore, great!

Saw my Uro today.
She thinks my incontience problem is nerve related. She said it is not my IC.
On the sheet when I checked out it says, IC, Bladder Hyperrflexia, Neurogenic.
I have 2 have moe tests!
I am scheduled for a renal ultrasound, and a lumbosacral spine x-ray.
This is nooooooooooooo fun!

Lots of time when I need medical info I go to www.mayoclinic.com. They have a pretty extensive base of information. Then if I can't find anything I usually google to find information. Just a thought... Wishing you blessings of good health.

One other thing about my tests - the URO says my bladder pressures are off the charts - which is not good. She said my leakeage is the result of my bladder pressures being so high. She said if it continues it will cause renal failure!!! She said something is causing it (possibly nerve problems in my back??!!!)
I go this Weds for my back x-rays, and renal ultrasound, then I go see the URO.
Anyone else had this problem with bladder pressures?
