Hey. Just curious about something. I've never tried Prelief yet. But would it work with Indian food. I love Indian food, but we never eat it because it kills me!!! Which really sucks because I love the food and my husband is Indian and never gets to eat it either because he knows how much I miss it. So, would Prelief work for that?

I don't think so. I have heard that it just works on removing the acid in foods. The spices are probably what is bothering you with the Indian foods. I too love Indian food, but have been afraid to try anything spicy. Good luck.

It may lesson the load a bit but I suspect not a whole lot....If you ever try it try only a very small amount to begin with. You can always ask Prelief any questions:

Thanks. I just e-mailed them. But I have a feeling the only way to find out will be to try it. :-)

Well, you've come to the right place. I asked my boss, Alan Kligerman, who developed Prelief and holds the patents on it. His reply:
Ah, Indian food ! Who could live without it? Bombay Restaurant in Egg Harbor Township, NJ has a biryani to die for (not from), to say nothing of the raita all over it and shrimp jalfrezi (the all time challenge)........... Thank heaven I am having dinner there tonight - really!
But to your question: Prelief takes acid out of foods, and while most piquant spices can demonstrate some acidity, that is not the main source of your problem: there are substances in spices, peppers especially, such as capsaicin and related natural picker-uppers, whose effect on the cells in your mouth, throat and stomach occur specifically because they behave as cellular inflammatories. Good news: Prelief is also a cellular anti-inflammatory and I find that taking a few Prelief tablets with my Indian food helps much. This is something you will have to try for yourself; experiment.
For example: If it's your mouth and throat that get inflamed, then the tablets will not do the real job for you because they go right to the stomach, bypassing the trouble areas. You can instead spray some Prelief powder over the food while it is in your plate, mix it in -it will disappear nicely if you don't put too much on- and it will then have its effects from the moment the food is in your mouth. The spray bottles of powder are not in the stores yet, but you can order them mail order direct from us. How much to use? Without knowing what your particular favorites are or how much you eat* I would guess 3 - 4 tablets or equivalent in powder, per meal.
BTW - I find that red wine with Indian food seems to potentiate the problem. Drink white wine, instead. Most Indian food is good white wine food, anyway.
____
* There seems to be a factor in the spicing of Indian foods which relaxes the smooth (stomach) muscle, and it is possible to enjoy a really large meal and walk away comfortably, as contrasted with richer European foods.
I'll be interested in knowing how you make out. Take it easy at first. Ask the kitchen to go easy on the spices. Possibly avoid the makhani's because they are so rich that you may be responding to that, as some people do. The specific spicing in the spinach dishes are in a class by themselves and you might bypass them. Best starting bet: a mild shrimp biryani + maybe a honey tandoori chicken tikka. I hope all this isn't TMI.
Best wishes,

Mr. Kligerman, no such thing as TMI for us here on the boards. We are sponges for information. Thanks so much for posting! What a fascinating discussion. My only problem with it is now I'm going to have to figure out how to get some Indian food this weekend....
