I had my annual checkup with my nurse practioner last week. She mentioned I had alot of protein in my urine. I wondered if this is common in IC patients. I know they always find blood but I cant remember them seeing the protein. thanks.Sue

I have a lot of protein in my urine too.
I'm not sure if it has to do with IC or not.

I have heard quite a few ICers say they have protein in their urine....infact there is research on a protein in the urine that is possibly specific to IC. It is pretty common.

Thanks for th info. I know the doctors who haven't seen my urine before are always shocked at what a mess it is but I think this is the first time they've mentioned protein. I'll ask my Uro next time I see him..Sue
I too have protein in my urine. Just today I ended up at the Dr's with pressure pain (clitoral pain) TMI. He tested my urine and blood and protein showed up. I get this every month around ovulation. I don't know if that a conection or not. Good thing is that he didn't think I had a UTI.

I've had protein in my urine many times before and been diagnosed with IC for 7 years now. I have nothing else wrong with me (knock on wood) other than IC. Doctors have always dismissed it because of the IC. I've also always had blood in my urine show up under microscopes and always, no matter whether I've had an infection or not, had WBC.
Trying to figure out if I have a UTI has been my biggest problem since I can remember, even before being diagnosed with IC. When I'm not in pain, I still have protein, blood, and high WBC. Go figure.
Good luck.

Never heard of protein in the urine before, especially concerning IC. Will be checking with my urologist next time I see him. Wonder how it affects our bladders?

I'm also a protein'er...I thought protein in the urine was related to the kidneys?
Tonight I did a dip stick (my Dr gives me some sticks to test my urine at home), and I have alot of protein and also bowel pain. Not sure why that is though. Will be heading to the Dr's tomorrow. I'm in agony tonight.
