r there any people here who had the dsmo installations and they did not work for them? What meds or other things have worked for you if this is true? Thank u for your replys and help:) I also read somewhere that the antidepressents worked well for the ic'ers that couldnt be helped by DSMO..is this right?
There are people that DSMO doesn't work for. In fact, there is no one treatment that works for everyone. We are all different in what we respond to. If you look through the Handbook as well as reading the message boards, http://www.ic-network.com/handbook/, you will find the different treatments.
It is going to take trial and error and making sure to give the treatments adequate time to see if they work. In the case of Elmiron, it can take 6 -12 months to know that.
You should sit down with your Dr. and discuss some of the treatments you read about on here and figure out what might be a treatment course to try to find out what might work best for you.

I tried DMSO treatments twice and it didn't help me either time. I've tried alot of different treatments and nothing seems to help significately. I have a low tolerance to medications so have to take in low dosages to assuming that is half the battle. Not getting the full effect.
Currently I'm on
Hydroxzine
Detrol LA
Amitriptyline
Clonzapam
Among others for other issues. I also just started Flaxseed oil to hopefully help with the dryness as a result of the medications. I daily meditate do yoga or pilates (gently stretches only) and try to keep my day occupied so I don't venture into the "IC why me symdrome"

DMSO didn't work for me either; now I'm on a regimen of oral meds and rescue instillations of heparin/lidocaine that are to be done as needed, and this new regimen seems to be helping quite a bit. :) There is hope. VM has given you good advice -- check out the handbook and read the section on treatments, and then discuss the possibility of trying some of them with your doctor....

I am another person who got no relief from the DMSO treatments. I did them faithfully once per week for 8 weeks, just hoping to get some relief, but no cigar! Sorry for your predicament.

DMSO didn't work for me either...seemed like a lot of torture for nothing for me. Heparin /lidocaine was more helpful. Calcium and antibiotics have been helpful...as has an antispasmodic...although it took a few tries to find the right one for me.
Elmiron helped me...
I don't know if antidespressants being helpful for those that didn't respond to DMSO is a norm...I know I haven't tried antidepressants as of yet and docs have never thought that treatment would be right for me. I have responded to anticonvulsants too.
For my IC I am currently on Elmiron, calcium, Prilosec, Pyridium Pus, and take Heparin Lidocaine instills when flaring.
Good luck on finding what works best for you!!!

DMSO worked the first time-I had six straight days pain free! Which is very rare for me. I have tried DMSO three times since then and it has not worked at all. In fact, it put into a flare.
I have tried a lot of meds/treatments with no luck at all.
I am on a medical leave from work to try some other meds/treatments which I haven't tried as of yet.
It sure has been a long four years.
Now I am on:
-celexa (originally for the pain and I noticed it helped my moods. I didn't feel like hurting the people at work! lol!)
-demerol 4-5 times a day
-percocet once a day (just before I go to bed to help me sleep through the night-I usually wake from the pain)
-morphine tablets (only for when the percocet/demerol doesn't work. This is kept aside for extreme pain so I don't have to go to the ER) My 'big guns'.
-depot lupron (I has just been diagnosed with endo and receive the shot once per months. It hasn't helped the pain that I have 24/7)
-tegretol (I haven't tried this as of yet. I'm going to wait to see how the lupron works.
I eat flax seeds everyday and found that it helps with constipation from the meds.

Elmiron works for me but it does take a few months to kick in. How many treatments have you had. I know b4 Elmiron was approved I went for DMSO more frequently in the beginning then as I got "some" relief we started stretching the treatments out. Was going once a week at 1st and the nurse made a point of using a tiny childrens cath for less pain. She was an angel.
