:welcome: to the IC Network.

The instrument to do a cystoscopy is no larger than a catheter. If your doctor is planning to do the procedure in his office, you would probably not receive anesthesia. They do use a numbing solution to help with the discomfort. I have had several office cystos and, while they are not fun, they're not horrible either. I find if I concentrate on relaxing, it's much easier --- and it's over in a few minutes.

If he's planning to do a cystoscopy with hydrodistention, it would be done in a hospital with an anesthetic. Usually it's a day surgery procedure. The first few urinations afterwards are painful, but most people recover in a few days.

The best recommendation I can make for either procedure is that it's part of the diagnostic process --- and once you have a diagnosis, you can begin treatment to help you feel better.
